Any O/O leased to Roadrunner?

cant really answer your question myself but i spoke with one of their drivers yesterday and he was very happy with them, i am also applying with them, good luck.

I'm not with RoadRunner, but used to be with Dawes, a company RR merged with about 6 years ago. I still have a few friends there.

As RR is predominantly LTL, you run terminal to terminal, with agent deliveries and direct to customer deliveries intermixed when necessary. You make a set linehaul amount per mile, which from what I have seen (I have their current rate sheet) is pretty much average truckload rate per mile. You then add in FSC, extra drops, hazmat pay (and you better like hauling hazmat, they have a ton of it) of .04/mi.

With RR you are really on left alone and on your own when it comes to what you do. You can choose to run a certain lane constantly, run around the country, run brokered loads, whatever. One of my friends runs Milwaukee to Los Angeles, LA to either Salt Lake City or Albuquerque and then Denver (he lives in Colorado), then brokers freight back to Milwaukee. RR has a department that has two or three people in it that do nothing but find drivers freight, using all the load boards and company brokerages that meet their financial criteria.

You're best off with your own trailer, and most of their freight is dry van. I have two friends there who have reefers, but haven't used them for RR freight in over two years. They do come in handy for broker freight, but I'd go dry van if I were looking to go back.

Word of caution......better not mind being inspected a lot. Their SMS scores are horrendous, especially their equipment score. As almost all RR equipment is owner operator (they're a non-asset based company, even the local trucks are owner operator owned, although they did just buy M. Bruenger out of Wichita last week, which has some company trucks) they weren't too interested how you kept your equipment up. But now, with CSA, they're reaping the rewards of that attitude. Just last week my friend signed a new contract addendum that requires him to get a full DOT inspection done on his equipment every six months, and with their SMS score I'd be surprised if that wasn't lowered to 3 months in the next year or so.

Their other SMS scores are pretty high also. They're "intervention" worthy in three areas.

In short, you can make money there. You'll be responsible for all your own business expenses (plates, permits, fuel/ad valorum taxes, tolls, etc.), you'll have a very high degree of independence and they have quite a bit of freight by what my friends have been saying. Just be aware of the regulatory and enforcement challenges they have coming at them.

They use TransFlo for sending paperwork in, and if it's there this week you get paid next week, not sure what the deadlines are. They also have Comdata cards and load I believe 30-40% of the revenue per trip on the card for fuel, expenses, etc.

They've been buying companies left and right for the last few years. Besides Bruenger, they bought Morgan Southern, a container drayage company, a few months back, and have bought quite a few small LTL regional companies. They're aggressive, and if I remember correctly are now the fastest growing LTL company in the biz.

 

I would stay away. My dad and his buddy ran for them from 88- 05. When they were Dawes. All those people did was tear the hell out o my dads trailer. From forks going through the trailer to the inside just getting messed up bad. Me personally I would rather look for someone that respected equipment.

 

They just bought us (M. Bruenger). We were told no changes will be made. I belive that... Not. It will be intresting to say the least. I'll keep y'all up to date.

 

Others have asked the same question about RRTS. Use the search option to find them. I was leased there for 6 months about 2 years ago.

 

Pardon me? He wasn't being a smart ###. He was suggesting you do your own research instead of asking questions and letting someone else do your work for you.

Since you have been on TTR for awhile, I assume you know that the same posts come up multiple times a week.

I just don't understand why people don't search first. Sure there are no stupid qustions but I would never ask questions without research. Then my opinion would be based on the opinions of other truck drivers and not facts.

I'm willing to bet simply pulling up their website would answer the percentage/mileage question.
