BS, I run an 04 pete with a bridged C15. rated at 475. We have W900s in our fleet that have 475 isxs in them and they will run circles around my bridged Pete and they will do it hauling more weight. They consistantly get 1 mpg better then I do also and they do that going 72 mph verses my 65 mph.
I have had this truck in the local cat shop many times for power complaints and fuel complaints. They have litterally spent hours and hours going over everything on this truck and looking at the programing etc.
We have a few other petes and KWs (t800s) with non bridged C15s in them and they can not even touch the isx cummins in the hills or come close to the same economy.
Now we have a couple newer C13s that came out rated at 475 and they will give the isx a run for their money but the isx still comes out in the end.
There was only one time that I was truely happy about the motor int he truck I run. I was coming up to a hill and it started to pull like a freight train. I was grossed at 104K. Boost ran up to a tad over 40 psi and it was pulling hard. I actually had a smile on my face, all until the engine light came on and it derated. I then had to limp it in 200 miles. Here the waste gate actuator had gone south on it. it was replaced and I was back down to fighting this thing again.
I have put a fuel wire on it and it helps but the cat shops keep removing it when it goes in for service. if I forget to take it off then I end up making a new one. They know all about the resistor tricks and they know all about the flashing of the computer and they have told me that they will refuse to service it if I have anything done that is not cat certified for this engine. -

Anybody who know a thing or two should know that you simply CAN NOT compare a cummins to a cat. By the way this is a repost I don't even know how many times!

our big Cat earth movers are freak'n beasts, I'm not a mechanic but I'd guess they don't have the same emission restrictions as the road motors ?? Anyway, another Cat man here...
I did drive a Sig 600 Cummins on my last road job and was quite impressed it pulled real good....On the flip side to that my ex-boss man said "they do pull good when they aren't in the shop" he has had quite a few problems with the couple red tops he owns.. -
I have a feeling that the truck is going to be replaced. Rumer is that there are going to be a few Prostars replacing some of the "Hoods". I told the boss not to get one on my account unless they make it a Lonestar instead. I refuse to drive one of them squashed bug looking things.
I am not so worried about aero dynamics anyway since the trailers we pull are about the same as pulling a huge wind brake anyway.Attached Files:
