I understand the no long runs or 100k the first year or even the nicer trucks but I don't agree with how senority works. I busted my butt for two months before I got into the class and then durin it they hire two other guys. I was suppose to start the 2nd week but then they made me wait longer cuz they hired two more apprentices, plus I had my license and all endorsements prior to being hired

well jakebrake, i finally got to go to hagerstown, i was suppose to go to milton but since all the trucks goin there only had one seat, the manager told me to go to hagerstownwith the 2nd guy who leaves. the way it made it seem that it was 5 times the size of wut it is, but dont get me wrong its huge but milton i heard is bigger.

besides that i went to newark and carlstadt, both r ok, not many miles at all to drive, but i cant do n e thing about that. im suppose to go to milton tonite, but my scm told me since hes been hearing im good he asked if i feel confident and if he needs me to do a carlstadt or newark run by myself since he thinks he will b very busy tonite.

next week i believe im doing another week of linehaul, then some p/d the following

Milton is bigger than the terminal you saw in Hagerstown but they operate two separate terminals there with that big yard in the middle. Between the two it's 300 doors whereas Milton is like 205 I think. Carlstadt and Newark are decent mileage runs for me but I hate dropping/hooking at both of them because they're so tight. I can already fill out my bid sheet for next year and know I'm not touching Jersey - gonna run NY, Va, and Oh..

they sent me by myself on friday to carlstadt cuz they needed another driver. i drove my first time alone there. the backing into the docks there suck because they r so tight, one of the senoir guys at my terminal who i went to hagerstown with showed me a different way to back in making it easier for tight terminals like carlstadt

carlstadt and newark r horrible miles for us, i think the r only like 40 miles to the terminal. milton and hagerstown r the other two and they r great miles, but wont b getting to touch n e of those on my own n e time soon. i believe they r sending me to milton tonite just to c it, the fos wants us to c all areas we go to tho for training

Yeah I hear ya. If you end up on nights you'll be in NJ most of the time but you might be able to double turn it or catch some nice via's. When I first started here I generally ran a 140 mile round trip run but I begged for via's and had a lot of 550 mile nights on that run. You might be able to leave Jersey, drop in Brooklyn, and head back to Jersey to pick your loads before heading home - that pays inflated metro miles which adds up. It's like 8 miles between Carlstadt and Newark but it pays 16 from Carlstadt to Newark and 32 from Newark to Carlstadt. I have no idea why it pays double one way and quadruple the other way but it does. I forget the exact miles driving vs paid but Brooklyn pays metro miles from Jersey also..

right now im gonna take what they give me, either p/d or linehaul. im still young with no family or kids to b there for so i figure id get wut i can get, then eventually after building senority ill can do what i want. i rele dont understand y we go to bopth newark and carlstadt if they r that close together, one of the guys said before newark there was another place close to carlstadt that said y do u even bother coming here if u go to carlstadt as well and kicked us out. guy who trained me said we used to run allentown as well which he said was a nice run for us. got to c milton on thursday finally, i like it there and hagerstown, everyone is jus so much friendlier, even the supervisors came over to introduce themselves since they said they never saw me before.

we just got another freightliner though, brand new(we had three but they took two away, now got a brand new one, harry already claimed the new one lol) not sure if u no n e else from where i am but the other guy who runs hagerstown took harrys old truck, im actually hoping that no one decides to get his truck, its a lot nicer than the one ive used, bout 7 years newer too, the night supervisor told me to find a truck i like for linehaul and can use that from now on. the two i want, one is used by someone else(has a lot of power) and the 2nd one is the one i spoke about before

well im going back to p/d training next week, hopefully soon i will be finished completely with training. one manager wanted us to get a lil more driving training, and our inbound supervisor also said he wants us to see certain docks that can b tricky to pull into, or big customers just so we no wut to expect when going

    Hey ACH1130,

After you guys finish your Linehaul and P&D training will you have to do FAC hostling at your terminal? All new drivers and apprentice graduates have to work the FAC hostling until someone new bumps you up to the flex boards here. I've been doing this for the last 3 weeks and should only have 2 more weeks until I'm on the flex board.

Consider yourself lucky then! We have 174 doors here and 4 FAC hostling positions. Very fast paced and busy all night long. All new drivers here have to FAC hostle until you get bumped up by a new hire or graduate. I should be done when the other 3 apprentices start in two weeks plus 2 new hires next week finish their 2 week training.

thats a big FAC, biggest i saw was miltom with 205 doors, i believe carlstadt only has like 110 and newark has 90, hagerstown is a diff story since theres two buildings.

well thats good for u tho, but how long where u hostling for?

as of today the supervisor said u r done training and now officially on the flexboard as of monday.
