Hello all. I am new here and had hoped my first post would be much different after researching this new career for my husband for so many months since his original career disappeared into the 'good ol' days' as an ananchronism.

He graduated a respected local college program with 3 months of prep to get his CDL, which he did. Then applied and was accepted at our company of choice, a large carrier who offered all the things we needed. He went to their long orientation, which is an hour or so away, and graduated that. Then he was assigned a trainer who he was supposed to go out with for a week or more but after 4 days, and barely any time actually driving, the trainer sent him to be tested for being ready for solo, and he was told he wouldn't be allowed to take all the tests because he didn't have enough time actually driving.

Then he was told he'd get a new trainer asap but this has stretched on for a while at rock bottom pay which barely covers the gas to get to the office every day to sit around and do nothing all day.

But here's the thing, the trainer was supposed to teach him how to do the electronic logging and update it every day but didn't and wouldn't give him a copy and told him not to worry about it. Well when he got a copy of it finally, yesterday, the trainer had put him down as driving a lot of hours, day's worth, which is not true! He corrected to his memory as best he could and sent that to headquarters. But the trainer had used his hours so he could get extra for himself and make more money! For the end of the week, he has my husband down as being dropped off hundreds of miles away from where his personal vehicle was actually parked. This is obvious falsification of records!

What should he do? He was terrified when he discovered it and corrected it to the best of his memory, a week later at that, but he is afraid if he reports the trainer, he'll be 1) fired 2) blacklisted and who knows what else. Now he realizes the trainer ran illegal loads without weighing them and other illegal activities but he was supposed to be the trainee and learning! Turns out he's learning from a crook!

This is a company that claims to be 100% on the up and up and this is the kind of trainers they have? Is he being set up? Or is this just how trucking is, in which case, forget this crap!

I should add that we really need to know before Monday as he WILL report the trainer and we just would like an idea of the repercussions. Also, he did not know what he was responsible for during these 4 days and the trainer also told him of a recent, violent criminal record in which the trainer severely assaulted and injured someone which my husband took as intimidation to shut up about. We verified the criminal history and were quite taken aback that this was used as an intimidation tactic.

Please please someone give us some pointers, we had invested a lot in this whole career transition, everything, and now we meet up with the Hitcher? Help!

being a student and a newbie the only thing i can add is that if it was my company i would want him to tell me about the dishonest employee. That guy's dishonesty may come back to bite the company in the butt if he has an accident and lawyers start digging through his stuff. Ive always heard the truth shall set you free.

Ya, i see the problem. Everybody tells all new drivers, or drivers to be or anybody even interested in becoming a driver to stay as far away as the big companys as possible. Why do you think all these experienced drivers who have been around the block about a thousand times say this to the newer people?

Every body says this about the big companys or mega-carriers. Everybody except for a few lowlife recruiters who float around in this forum, and the truck stops ets.. who put on the image of honest, sweet, cool, person who doesnt make any money for recruiting drivers to the rip off mega-carrier they work for, they just bring in drivers to the big company because it is so good, they just want nothing more than to share the goodness to all, they dont make a penny off it they swears.

I am thinking what happened is you seem like a pretty bright individual, you researched it for quite a while then somehow or for some reason you contacted one of these lowlife beasterds or they contacted you, and you fell for there sheet is what happened. Now not listening to all the experienced drivers is biting you in the ace, its hurting you and your husband severely and you aint liking it. I am thinking thats what happend.

The good news is redemption, and a reall job, and a reall paycheck can be close at hand if you just follow whats been written, what you probley already read. Get you husband out of the big company start him off with a reputable smaller company close to where you live. Its that easy, but I am thinkin you aint gona do it becouse you is just waaay smarter than all of us stupid truckers

Running on students logs is old news. All student/trainer teams run illegally. I trained students for about 8 months. Ran on my students logs all the time. Where does that idea come from. I dont want to run double hours the pay for the mega-carrier I worked for even as a trainer wasnt worth a sheet, not worth it. Where it comes from is the top. It came from the top in little private phone calls, in qcom messages you read between the lines ets. I had a student on my truck who refused to drive more than 6 hours a day. Feing laziest beasterd I ever met. Dispatch refused to get him off my truck. Threatened on qcalm to terminate me if I booted him off my truck. If I get late loads i get terminated. What do i do? I leased from them as well. I made all the friggen mistakes, gota learn everything the hardway, because like you I am smarter than everybody, I know better than everybody esle does. Learned everything the hard way. DM jacks me on miles I got negative paychecks, bad week I got negative paychecks. Thats where I drive say 2k miles or me and student drive only 3k miles a week, I didnt make enough money to break even. The lease payment, fuel, insurence ets.. came out to more than I made for the week. So a driver gets in the hole. He or she is paying the company for the privalage to drive for them, and make them money. You do what you gota do. This happens a lot at CRengland more so there as far as trainers running on student logs dew to there force and slavery inducing jacked up leece program. It happens at swift, central (swifts daughter) Prime, Knight, Covenant ets.... ets.. All mega-carriers same sheet, part does come from top, a small amount greed, a fair share out of desperation to make a check so you dont literaly starve to death in your own sleeper. Old news, if you start off with a mega-carrier expect it, it will happen. Forced to drive knights as a student while your lazy wuzzie worthless trainer sleeps during night time another thing to look forward as a student in a mega carrier. The list is endless. What your husband went threw is not even scratching the surface of what he will go thew of the two of you dont get your heads out of your aces, and get him trained in a decent company.

Bazerk, you are a hoot. My DH doesn't have new trainer in sight, no route waiting after he finishes training, so we know he's not going back there. The question is does he report the trainer and will he be blacklisted? We chose this carrier because they offer the best perks, and we have the white paper from them in all that, there's no dispute. The trainer had quite a bit of compensation to train, not just monetary.

If I thought truckers were all stupid, I wouldn't bother posting, LOL. And you won't be able to make me mad with bad spelling or funky attitude, too thick skinned for that. So you think *all* the big carriers are corrupt? Well I suppose corruption is neither here nor there but everywhere, big and small, so that question is answered. What remains is the blacklisting question.

Regardless, I hope to get viewpoints from others as well. None of the smaller companies offer the non monetary compensation this one does, which is why we chose it. We have certain needs from an employer that the small carriers don't have, but if he has to be dishonest and play roulette with the law like the trainer does, all the time, anywhere big or small, he will seek another source of income. I guess we'll find out soon! I will let you know. But I still hope for a variety of viewpoints.

Report the trainer to the company. The logs will back you up. If you're really afraid of this douchebag, file a police report. If he's on parole, get a hold of the parole office and turn him in for trying to intimidate you. If this gets you in trouble with that company, find a better one.

As for blacklisting, not all companies care or even look at DAC. Just look at the trainer. He's still got a job, right?

What Whizbang said is a gross exaggeration of the way things are actually set up with most of the "training" companies. The sad part is that some of the Trainers/Mentors at most of the "training" companies will use the student as a second log book to get more miles/hours to take more money home. However, the "training" companies I trained/Mentored for, had at orientation for the student, a short section that discussed this issue....and the companies all requested the student keep them informed on this situation and when it did happen. Swift, has changed to the Driver Services calling the student weekly and getting a first hand report, in private, from the student. And a good trainer/Mentor will also insist that the student be completely honest in the evaluation of the trainer/Mentor after the training period has been completed.

It doesn't do the company any good if the abusive, or useless trainer keeps on "training"...and the company has no way of knowing unless the student reports the behavior....ASAP to the company.

YES...report the trainer immediately....if the company is any good at all...the student will get a new trainer quickly....if not....then that "training" company really isn't a "training" company is it?!!

No offense guy but you really dont know what your talking about,no not all trainers run on their students logs.Any that do are not very bright.Oh I quess that might have offended you.Been at a major carrier for years. They have treated me well.Trained for the last two.No reason to run illegal, you have two log books, deetadee.LMAO,Love these supertruckers that have a hard on for major carriers.Any trainee that gets on my truck and cant drive more than six hrs, after a week of building stamina,is not gonna be on my truck long.I hope you folks dont actually take this guy seriously, hopefully your not with a company that actually might do this stuff.Sounds like he might of made a few bad decisions of his own and is wanting to lump all training companies together.Quess I was fortunate in where I landed.

Not all the major carriers are bad, although I have heard of some that use the training process as team driving and the trainer makes the additional money. I didnt realize electronic logs specify who was dropped off where, as far as I know, its just on duty, driving, sleeper, and off duty. At least thats how mine works, dont have to explain anything over the qualcomm....

How many trainers have you trained under since you since you definitively figured out logging? You know only a few cheat on there logs, most dont though. You sound like a saint, probley look like one two. All clean shaven and such. I am what I am and I look like it. Prison when I was younger, lot of drugs ets... I am at CRengland yard less than two hours in Laredo, this fat smelly beasterd invites me to " a party south of the border" I am like whatever, get a cab head down into Mexico, get another cab at boarder, costing dude a fortune he is paying for it, I give a sheet less. First run into Mexico I got a few pictures, look at my profile you see them. Very reall, a few of the CRE fellers who spend a lot of time got a little run going on ever so often for a few extra bucks. Point being is people I dont or barely even know throwing sheet like this at me all the time, or telling me sheet just blabbing there mouth about everything, I know about more sheet that goes on than you even know exist even in your stupid little internet searches. How honest do you think people are going to be around you who do slightly shady stuff from time to time. If I saw or talked to you I wouldnt say a #### word about nothin to you. How valid is your knowledge about what really goes on in reguards to trainers? I know a heck of a lot more than you could ever dream of der Swifty.

Driver services you are trying to sell Swift on make Swift look so good like a saint. CRE got same thing its also a complete farse. Once a week as a student you get a call. Its all one sided, the person you talk to askes student a few stupid questions about required training, backing sessions ets. If student sais only one backing secession today and he was sposed to have two, the person coazes another out of student. Well lets go over what you did today, well hold it there, thats definately a backing session isnt it, you did learn something didnt you? Poor lost student: well um ya I guess you are right I did get the backing sessions I was supossed to, i guess I wasnt really thinking about it. This type conversation happens with every deficiency the student trys to point out. So the poor student is actually brainwashed or convienced dew to there call it innocence or lack of knowledge they are indeed getting well trained, and there trainer who is complety worthless is actually doing everything they are sposed to do, AND MORE!

What good does it do to keep these worthless trainers? Isnt that self evident. On the really jacked companys they screw there drivers so bad, more quit every year, than they can replace. Why do so many recruiters hang out in this forum trying to get people new to industry to join there company. These companys are so desperate for drivers they have to pay existing drivers to bring them in "X" amount of bodies each month, dew to the amount of people who quit or get fired. If a driver is stupid enough to stay with one of these bottom feeders they are golden to the company. One truck they will not have to put a new piece of meat into every month. Unless they do something that hurts the companys bottom line, like aquire Points from speeding, bad inspections ets.. ets.. Keeping them is in the companys best interest. But they will play the saint of course, throw a couple nickles for a BS Public Relations program like driver services to assist with the spin to prevent even further more damaging turnover. They make the owners/investors lots of money, they will not change what needs changed wich is better compensation/training AKA giving a sheet about there drivers if it will hurt the investors bottom line even marginally. And so the circle continues.

Just saw these post in different part of forum, thought it quite funny. The turnover is so high, there is more money to be made by getting them meet for there seats than there is by sitting in one of there seats and driving
