HI Everyone, I've been reading postings at this forum for awhile now, and decided to join. I'm going to be finishing CDL school soon to get my CDL A. I've had my CDL B for awhile, and decided to go all the way and get the A, and wanted to get some advice from you guys.
I have had several offers from Werner, Covenant, US XPress, and Roehl. I'm thinking about going with Roehl, but I was wondering about US Xpress. I haven't read all that much about them and was wondering how they are? I know they have the automatic transmissions and they seem to be an ok company. I respect and value your opinions. I have read many postings and they have given me a lot of knowledge and insight into the trucking world. I appreciate any advice you would have for a newbie. Thanks :smt001
I need some advice about US Xpress

Go with Roehl or even Crete. I worked for Crete for about a year and liked them. They're not a NASDAQ outfit as far as I know, which is a BIG plus in my humble opinion. I BELIEVE Crete is still privately owned. Compared with a lot of the bigger fish out there, Crete is an awesome company. I've heard Roehl is as well.
US Express screwed me around at an orientation once before deciding not to hire me. That's the only experience I have with them. I wouldn't apply again with USX, but you may go to work for them and be as happy as a pea in a pod. Check them out thoroughly before committing one way or the other.
Good luck. -
Thanks for the advice Tip. I'm going to look into Crete now.

I'd stay away from U.S.Express if I were you. This is'nt based on personal experience, but the fact that they use Auto-shift. It SOUNDS nice, but the fact is that most companies out there use standard. Starting out and gaining experience with a standard will mean ya can hire on anywhere. Starting out with an automatic pretty much limits you only to companies that use em. Also driving a manual will give you a much better understanding of the physics behind driving

Germangirl Thanks this.

USX is going back to Manual Transmission. They don't buy Automatics anymore. -
I lasted 8 month's there, I was lied to from the start, but still gave them the benefit of the doubt. Obviously, my version of English and theirs did not have the same meaning. When a certain offshift dispatcher came right out and told me they lied, that was enough.

Latest info, yes they are getting all manual shifts currently.
The autoshifts, to an extent, will most likely return in 12-18 months.
updates as soon as available.........johnday and Germangirl Thank this.
