Whats is the easiest way to hook up sirius/xm to a truck without a hookup. and does the tuners built into the units actually work better than the old school types. And does price really matter that much? Just curious because radio jumping is killing me.

What do you mean w/o a hook up? just by one of the cheaper ones at truckstop and it will have everything that you need, but you will probably want the better antenna the window mount one than what comes with the kit.Oh and its not perfect either, but it really added to my quality of life, but you will still get areas where it doesn't work either............:biggrin_255:

Bought the cheap unit for $30. Mounted it to my dash with velcro. The upgraded (wand or stick) antenna is very good. Since my stereo didn't have a aux input, I hooked up an FM retransmitter from radio shack for about $10.

Only area I didn't get coverage was the north face of Mt Hood (Government Camp).

Fr8monkey. I guess I didn't explain myself very well. I went to the main forum and read there stuff and didn't like the answers. I know swift has many kinds of trucks without inputs. I guess I really want to know how well does the newer recievers work that have the radio tuners in them work or does it work better with a aux radio tuner thing. Didn't want to waste any money if I don't have to.

The AUX input will always be the better choice, depending on where you are at any given moment it can be hard to find a clear channel to tune to,

I have the XM Onyx and enjoy it, in the truck I use my aux input but in my car I have to use the fm transmitter. Not to bad but can be difficult to find a clear station but then you can save 5 stations to make it easier.

It is nice not having to search for new stations as you travel. You can listen to the same station all away across the US. I am just waiting for NFL to start again so I can listen to the Lions play. Assuming the don't strike.

If you are using the in unit transmitter, mount it as close to the radio as possible, take off the radio antenna on the truck to keep down unwanted interference. This will help greatly. If your CB antennas are also your radio antenna, just use a dedicated seperate CB antenna, then unscrew the factory antennas and put them under the mattress.
