2004 Western Star Lowmax with a 475hp MBN CAT that drinks fuel like it's an old 3408B in a cabover with 4.56 gears :biggrin_2559:

Ok, your ecm may have been 6NZ'd... It kind of sounds like it has. Your temps sound like mine do now. Mine was limited to 2100rpm from the factory.. Mine would idle rough as heck when it was MBN. The hood would shake and my teeth would rattle when in the sleeper, lol. After he 6NZ'd it really smoothed the idle out. $800 ?? when did he raise the price? It only cost me $500.

That's what I was quoted..... but I can't use him anyways as i don't run to VA and I also can't take a week off to ship him the ECM. I am gonna catch the diesel doctor over in Effingham and have him put in the 550 Brakesaver program. He only charges $100 too!

problem is, there are like 5-6 different Diesel Doctors. One in Effingham, IL (which is a good guy by the rep I've heard) one in N. Little Rock by the Petro, one up in MI off I-94 at grasslakes, another down in Wildwood and another that runs around Joplin. I am sure there are a few others out there tho.

As far as him tuning the rig, all i want is a 6NZ 550hp Brakesaver tune. Stock file for a Pre-MBN engine, so there should not be any problems with getting it done. Like I said, i have no problems spending the $$ to have it done by Haney, but he does not come out of the DC area, and my gig sends me in the complete opposite direction.

I'm not wasting $1600 on a PDI tune. I'd rather spend $2600 on a Bully Dog, that way at least when i get rid of the truck, I can sell the programmer or use it on the next truck if it's compatable.

I had a 550 Brakesaver program put in my 475/1650 BXS in Charlotte for $500. The power went up but the fuel mileage didn't change much at all. A forum member did the tune so if you want his contact info let me know. Eventually I bought the stage 1 PDI tune. What a difference! Power and fuel mileage went way up. I gained 6 - 7/10ths and it was an animal. The tune paid for itself the 1st day in smile factor and 4 months in fuel savings. I only wish I'd have done it much sooner because the tune made me money. I have friends with Bullydogs who are just as satisfied as I was with the PDI tune. I also had done the mufflers, fuel lines, high flow filters and filter head and the high pressure transfer pump spring. I had an 05 379 Pete. I always ask drivers about thier WS Lowmaxs because I like the looks of them. I often heard what you're saying - they are fuel hogs. I wonder if the aerodynamics are exceptionally terrible on them?

There's another Diesel Doctor around Hammond LA that works the Petro. He's a fraud and a thief. Talked me into paying $250 for a super tune and got absolutely nothing, except an education!

I LOVE my Lowmax. It rides like a caddy, and has not given me any problems yet besides the fuel hog issue. I love the look of them as well, and have always wanted one, and when it came up for sale, i got it.

Me switching back to tanker will help GREATLY, and I really want the PDI tune, but like I said, you are stuck with it in that truck forever, at least with the Power Pup you can go from truck to truck or sell it once you revert the truck back to stock. I don't keep trucks very long, but if I can get 7mpg (which i feel is realistic with my 4,500 lb tanker loads) I will not let this rig go.

Called into recruiting and they are only hiring teams from my area.. What difference does it make since I own the truck and don't go home much?? Can't even get past Thr first two minutes of phone call with recruiter. Ugh
