Its on a reefer trailer... Its does up and down the west coast and into texas... Hauling heavy most of the time and sometimes into florida...it has no dump valve or lift on either axle but its a sliding spread..

Yeah I would like a bozo bottom. I didn't know the forum had so many experts. We have 120 trucks and 376 trailers. So we go thru lots of tires. We also track our data which I seriously doubt the old wrinkled guy with the shiny chicken truck has a clue what his miles per 32nd are, but could tell u where the cheapest polish for his wheels are.

Yes we use an unicircle recap and also as haystack mentioned, we only use our casings. We have about 45 spread axle trailers with 17.5" & 19.5" tires. We haul 65,000 lb excavators on spread axles all 48 states and canada ai we deal with all weather extremes. We also buy a higher load rated tire that has increased our tire life. Probably something the old wrinkled guy would pay extra for. We also run tire pressure monitor system cause we found over the years the old wrinkled guy likes running his steer tires 10 lbs under inflated so they ride better.

Not knocking old guys, we have'em and I will be one as well one day, I am just using that point for sumothertrucker.

All of this and from others response is why you should find a good tire guy. If you only have 1 truck you may die before you try all options in your life to find what works for you. For example our rep has GAVE us 2 sets of test tires to use so we can track data for michelin. We seen an instant .78 mpg increase. Problem is the tire isn't for sell to public till late fall.

    Have fun.

Well this is a whole lot better answer than the first one. Actually gave some useful information. I think this will help him more than your first arrogent flavored post.
And yes, I think as you browse this forum you will find many experts on this forum. I've gotten an 04 C15 bridge motor up to a consistent 6.1mpg from 5.2mpg using a lot of information and contacts from this forum. Endless amounts of CAT shops were either not allowed to give me the info I was looking for or just plain didn't know how to improve the mileage.

Much knowledge there is here on this forum.:biggrin_25525:

Kind of an older thread & kind of off topic...but is there much difference in tire wear/durability between a 19.5 or a 22.5 tire if they are the same ply? I move cars & many of the trailers have 19.5's to gain the extra space in load height/load angle driving over the tandems pending mfg.

Called several tire places today & all said there wasn't a notable longevity difference, but would rather hear from someone not looking to make money from my possible mistake. It seems the farther west you go, the more people were recommending 22.5's. Which makes sense running in the northeastern cities vs out west.

Have always carried a spare for any trailer & know road side service wouldn't be so forgiving pricing a 19.5.

...& while asking questions, any difference in braking or finding parts for 19.5's?

Common sense says to find one with 22.5's for all the obvious reasons, but any info much appreciated from people who have had to deal with both.
