Hey ya'll just wanted to say hi. So I will be starting training on Monday the 20th to become part of the Central team. I started out reading some of the post here but HOLY COW there is 1586 pages of stuff :biggrin_25524:. So will read some more of them in the morning with my coffe. My main question is can you help me out by directing me to good threads that will help me understand what I need to start for Central?

I was just reading some info on the new qualcomm systems. They are saying that you can connect a scanner to it.
Anyone have one of the NEW qualcomms? Is there a usb connection on it?
I would like to see if I can connect a printer to it.

You don't need to read all 1500 pages, just the last 500 or so to get up to speed.

don't be afraid to ask questions, the more you know, the better off you'll be. The only stupid question is the one not asked, even if it's been asked over and over.

As for what you need, a positive attitude goes a long way, the course is an accellerated course, you learn just enough to get your CDL, then you go out with a trainer who will teach you to really drive and how to "do the job" you must commit to one year with Central, then start looking for better companies, I'm no longer with Central myself.

Don't lie to them and hide anything in your background, they will find it and you will be bounced out, be honest and if you think there is something that may be frowned on let your reqruiter know up front, like I said they will find it anyway, so it's no use to try to hide it.

    Good luck.

Pack the essential items only. Pack 2 bags if possible. As trainers we don't have a lot of room. I have some but. Most times food can be picked up when you get here. When with your trainer ask to stop at Wal-Mart if possible. Any other questions just ask away. There are several friendly people on here.

Be honest. Pay attention in class,on the training field and when you get with your trainer. Do not, I repeat,do not listen to the loudmouth "Super Trucker" hanging out at the barracks! It's mostly lies & nonsense. Pack light,if you have to catch a bus or plane to pick up your truck the last thing you need is four or five bags. Catch the shuttle to WalMart & get a lightweight sleeping bag. The barracks beds do not have bedding. And PLEASE bring personal hygene items and feel free to use them frequently. :biggrin_25525: Don't forget flip flops & towel for the shower. Bring change for laundry, soda & snacks. Pack a few things for cooler weather. Yeah, its almost summer, but there are still some chilly areas. Bring all the required paperwork or enjoy the bus ride back home. It will be as good or as bad as you make it. Good luck, let us know how its going.

Thanks for the advice guys will keep you posted. I have heard that the school is fast paced but don't think that will be a problem for me. I have a CDL from Alaska as I was driving roll off trucks up there. So I just need to learn how to drive a trailer instead of a truck. As far as going out with the trainer got it pack light not a problem. How much money will I need to get buy on the road untill the first pay day? I leave 20 mins away from the school so will be driving there and staying at home for those two weeks.

Depends on how much you eat as to money. If you can get by on soup, peanut butter and jelly. I say 35-50 would cover easy. If eating out figure at least 15 per day. You get $100 for orientation when seated on trainers try. then about 2 weeks till training pay. If you leave immediately on Wednesday then you will get 1 days pay the next week. If you don't leave till Thursday then its 2 weeks.
