windows open? DON'T. You're just inviting trouble. I left a 3" slot open one rainy night in North Carolina at the Kenly T/A and some skinny crack ho got herself up on the door and reached thru and down to the handle. I slept so soundly I didn't know what happened until she jumped off the running board and the truck rocked. But again, I've had a rock thrown thru my drivers window while i slept at the Gary, IN Pilot so not even a closed window will slow down these crooks. Don't park away from other trucks, dont park on the distant end of a row. Don't park near a fence line. Dont park in the dark. Dont leave anything in view in the front of the cab that might intice them.
Forget the bonus, idle and be comfortable. If your company is too cheap to outfit you with a $4000 APU why should you take the brunt of the physical discomfort (and physical threat from theives)?

thats what my boss said the trucks are all new but the dont have apu's and he wont ask a driver not to idle because if the driver is idling its usually because the conditions outside would make them uncomfortable and ineffective the next day.

A fan does wonders, I'll run my truck for a little while when I park, cool it down, I also have blankets I put up around the windows to insulate the truck,(both summer and winter,) then right before I go to bed, i cool the truck down really cold and then jsut let the small fan run, it usually jsut starts to get warm when I'm getting up in the morning.

Also, if you can park in the shade when you park, the pavement will be cooler, and won't warm up your truck as much. Keeping away from other trucks that idle helps also, otherwise you have a 180 degree furnace beside you blowing heat under your truck.

I picked up mine from the TA in Council Bluffs, IA for 31.99. I love them. Great investment.

That's exactly where I got mine from, as well. They're definitely great to have.

Sometimes I get off the interstate if another highway runs parallel like I81 and Rt11.All thru VA and WV there are places on 11 you can park. Then I open my hood for a few minutes to help cool off the engine which cools the interior quicker. From my experience its always worked better to park away from the crowd.Guess I`ve been lucky with my windows down and sleeper doors open.Always put my pants where they can`t be reached from the openings.
For those that have had trouble at the TA in Kenly I suggest going 1 exit south to Big Boys.If you`re looking to sleep or eat you will probably like it better.

On one of my first trips to Laredo for Landstar I parked in the LS yard which is out Mines Rd away from the riff raff, fenced in, and security is provided..

The guard at the entrance reminded me NOT to sleep with the windows open after I made a great sleeping weather comment...I inquired why ??

"Scorpians and Taratula" was the answer he gave...

be aware of your surroundings at all times people...
