I am looking carefully at joining Millis in the future. I am only about 90 minutes from the Cartersville, GA terminal. I know they haul a ton of budweiser at Millis but I am wondering what other types of freight do you haul? Is it mostly Budweiser all over the country? Also, with the Bud do you mostly go from breweries to distribution centers? I like the idea of familiar routes and predictable freight.

I used to drive for Swift. While we hauled for big companies like Costco, Walmart etc I'd also get stuck with mom and pop places in the middle of nowhere. Does Millis have their share of these types of clients?

Thanks for any answers you can give me. Be safe out there.

We haul more than just beer. A lot of paper, paper products, non-perishable items, John Deere products, and more. Lately have been to several new customers which includes Peanuts! LOL...Beer is a main staple for us and more than anything it's Miller/Coors than it is Budwiser unless youre regional/dedicated out of Cartersville.

You will go to the same places alot - but also will go to some Mom and Pop's too. It's usually a good mix.

    Hope this helps

Thanks Baritone. I've been off the road for a couple of years so I expect they will want me to go through a refresher, which I don't mind one bit. I still have my Class A CDL.

I really do like the idea of having some familiar shippers/receivers and don't mind the mom and pops but preference would be that the smaller ones be minimal. I can suck it up and take what they give me for sure.

Does Millis have open fuel cards? I hated not being able to fuel and get a shower every night when I was with Swift.

as long as it is a flying j, pilot, or ta you can get fuel and they do not tell you how much to get

Thanks Spanky. That sounds awesome. Anyone else that has any thoughts or comments they want to make, I am grateful for them. Millis sounds like a good company overall. I have been watching this thread for a long time.

I have talked to many other drivers for different companies while on the road. One of many reasons I like Millis is because they don't micro-manage like the Swifts, Roehls, Schneiders, JB's etc... They expect you to run, fuel responsibly. They allow us to do our own thing unless it becomes a constant problem for them.

Bear, that sounds inviting. I like the idea that you can plan your own route. Did it with Swift even though you were not supposed to. Sometimes Swift would have you on dangerous state highways when you the interstate route was only a few miles more. The thought of not being micro-managed and being allowed to prove yourself trustworthy is very attractive.

What are some of your favorite things about the job driving for Millis?

Averaging over. 38 cents per mile ytd when only started as a newbie in nov. On straight pay not that per diem crap.its nice that company gives you choices and treats you as a professional at least until you prove otherwise.

I have the "per diem crap" LOL. I like it actually. But agree with Scully - The best part about Millis for me, I dont have to have someone breathing over my shoulder. I am told where/when to p/u and deliver. How I get it there is up to me. I never question a load and I run good miles just about each week.

The equipment is pretty good and getting better as 300 new trucks will be on the street over the next 60 weeks. So just about everyone will have a truck that is no older than 2 years. You will have a truck with a real refrig and can have an inverter so you can have a microwave, tv etc. Being comfortable on the road is a huge thing for me.

They are not perfect - but I am very happy here!

Baritone and Sully, you two are doing a fine job of selling Millis to me. Are you sure you aren't recruiters? :biggrin_25522:

    Okay...what is your average miles?

What states do you see the most of?

Do they pay for scales or reimburse you?

    Trip pack or log scan?

    How are the shops?

Do they get you home on time?

I appreciate you guys taking the time to answer all my questions. If I have to leave my family again I want to be at a company that gives a dang about thier drivers. So far sounds like Millis is a good fit.
