Does this Include the idiot in the truck that throws his brakes on and goes to hollaring about people tailgating? Three Mer-cer trucks have done that to me this month after coming off the on-ramp,no tailgating problems other than the deliberate causing of one.

When I get a persistent tailgater behind me I turn on the jakes and slow down...It pisses them of but I don't really care.
JustSonny and TheHealthyDriver Thank this. -
That's because a majority of Mercer driver's have a stick shoved up there arse so far, they think they are better then anyone else! -
Best way to get a tailgater off your butt, is to blow a tire on the last axle. Did it yesterday, and maybe, just maybe, she learned something. I heard the tire go, and immediately looked in the left mirror. I had to chuckle seeing the minivan I couldn't see 20 seconds earlier, come swerving out from behind me.
More seriously, I'm glad there was no oncoming traffic. Most of my driving now is on skinny roads.

I do not tailgate nor do I like some hick trying to make a hood ornament out of my car when I'm driving it. Dad use to say "There's good drivers and there's fast drivers, but there are very few good, fast drivers".
notezbngrn71, wsyrob and iamgillespie Thank this. -
It's simple defensive driving technics that are being forgotten about. The big carries have figured it's cheaper to fix the truck and then fire the driver than to have a good safety program in place. The schools don't teach it so where are these new drivers going to learn?

I personally like 10 seconds, but it's a nice round number.
I agree with slow a bit to make a tailgater person pass. It's nice to smile and wave at them as they go by
I've been told I stay out to pass a bit to long. I'm still not good at judging where my tail really is, ya know? I try to judge by the shadow, and I do not want to cut anyone off, so want to be sure give enough space - but couple drivers have told me I give way more than enough room, lol. -
not big on tailgating.. though I see it a lot. and I wonder what those truckers are thinking? Mostly, honestly, I don't care about what families might die if I hit them.. aren't there enough already anyway? -- what motivates me is that, if I got into an accident, well.. that'd be a big downer. So I give everyone 100' or so. Even if cars keeping piling in in front of me. more room more room... forgive and forget. move on..
okiedokie Thanks this. -
Keep that mindset hup and you will do well. Dad you to say"Drivers are a dime a dozen, good ones a 2 bits a piece."
-
All you really had to put was El Paso, normal rules of driving do not apply there. I sit in the middle lane with my foot hovering over the brake pedal each time I go through there. Totally defensive.
