MTI/Millis

    Greetings All,

    Couple of questions for you Millis drivers out there if you don't mind and have the time. I'm considering it and the Millis in Cartersville is not far from my home.

    Millis only hires from their school MTI. How much does it actually cost? I've seen $2500.00 up to $5000.00.

    Do you know if MTI/Millis in Cartersville takes the GI Bill or WIA grants? Or do you have to fianance with them?

    Does Millis haul many different kinds of freight or just support the breweries?

    Is van all they work or does Millis have flatbed or reefer hauls?

    Is 48 too late to get into the game?

    Millis requires drivers to go through their training program if you have less than one year experience(I heard it was 6 months now but now sure about that)
    I don't think they take GI bill or WIA. Best if you call recruiting and ask.
    We haul different kinds of freight, beer, glass, paper, john deere, some furniture, etc..
    We only have dry vans, no flatbeds or refers.
    I for one got back into the game at 48 after being off the road for 16 years. There are several others that were new to the industry around the same age. So no 48 is not too late.

    The best thing for you to do is to call recruiting and ask all the questions you have in mind. They are great people up there and will be glad to help you out.

    I could be wrong but I think your total out of pocket expense will be $2500 if you stay with them a year. They take the schooling out of your check and it is like $10 per week.

    They require $500 down but if you are in dire straits I have seen where they have worked with people to get them on.

    If you leave before a year then I think you will owe them $5000.

    I don't think you can go wrong with Millis in my own opinion. And yes you have to go through their training.

    I would add that the financing is 0% if u stay on with them.

    You pay $20/wk for the remaining $2000 (after $500 dep)

    So you pay 20.00 a week for 52 weeks. That's 1040.00 for the year. So if you leave after a year you owe the balance?

    It's 2500 for the school and then 2500 for the over the road training. So 5K is correct. You have a payroll deduction of 20 a week for the school and 10 a week if you stayed in the hotel during school. Once you have completed your year - you are done with paying it back.

    best way to go HHG Miles or Practical Miles?

    Im on practical and I track every mile. Never more than about 2 to 3 percent off in miles. There are some runs that are higher than that but that's the norm.

    I cant speak to HHG as I have never neen on it. Maybe someone else can.
