    I cannot think of any instance where a backing accident would not be preventable. If you have to GOAL every 5 feet, do it.

    Nana,

    You hit it on the door nail as each state is different. Now if you do in fact fail when you could have goal'd, would you have done it differently?? I did goal on my skills test for each and docked one out of five allowed points. My CDL examiner told me had I not done that, I would not have earned his respect as I could hit a hazzard.

    So by not GOAL'ing during my backing, I am putting myself in danger of getting into a preventable accident per company safety standards. As a result of this preventable accident, there goes away my clean safety record and reputation with said company.

    If you have a backing accident, you will ruin your safety record, regardless of if you type "GOAL" into the QC. It does not matter who you work for, anyone in Safety with any company out there will tell you that the only backing accident that is non-preventable is someone backing into you. And that is likely what the result would be in court as well.

    KH: Per SWIFT safety standards, yes. But, GOALing does not absolve a driver.

    Your company? Not a clue.


    And what's with the "Ice Man" thing...is that what you're doing now?

    If every driver at Swift did Goal every time they went to back and help their co driver or other Swift drivers, upper level management would not have to require a macro every time a driver backs up you know.

    As per my new company, we does not have a rule for backing nor do log books as were within the short haul operations. Even if I do log it, I would have plenty of hours.

    We have two trucks, a F350 and a Sterling 26ft box truck. As for the nickname, Jimdriv3r gave it to me and it fits my new profession.

    And even if you don't need a logbook, is your rig in compliance ??
