A sad ending to what was a heroic attempt at loyalty. Sorry to hear it and all the best to you in your search for new employment, You gave it your best shot. Maybe you could reconsider the "coast to coast" thing ? There doesn't seem to be much of that nowadays. Keep us posted on where you end up.

Says a lot of it is paperwork requirements by lawyers in properly accounting for funds after they are paid by shipper (and thus after delivery is completed). :biggrin_25513: Not a GOOD THING

Secured creditors get paid first. This will be the people holding the land and equipment notes as determined by size of said notes. All it takes is just one to say no, shut him down and give me my assets.

I'm sure there are a few more carriers "teetering" on the edge of collapse.

Yes..he sure would. Wish he would come over to the "dark side"..(IBT). We need "stand up" people like him. Hope he finds a good company that will treat him like he deserves to be treated.

There are some smaller carriers who base out of Chattanooga. You may check with Frost out of Cohutta, GA. They pull reefers to the left coast. The drivers whom I have spoken seem to like the company. You can usually see one or more of their trucks at Cochran's. There is another company in Ringgold who is hiring. I think they also pay a sign on bonus. I don't remember the name, but they own the shop as you are exiting at the 245 southbound from Chattanooga. The sign on the shop says RTC. If I had vans I would put you in a truck. You don't find your type of loyalty very often in this business. Hopefully, you can get the rest of your money.

I am just down the road from him here in Northeast Alabama. I run reefers, and specifically haul produce. If I had an open seat available, I would love to have the guy as well. It is pretty rare to find a guy with his attitude nowadays. I have a few of them working for me now and I treat them like gold. I would much rather bend over backwards in an attempt to keep a good driver than to hire somebody to replace them and HOPE they turn out well.

Thanks, I appreciate the vote of confidence. Not much in the union side around here that sparks my interest, really - I like OTR vs LTL and this job was my one shot at coast to coast that I love more than anything else. I still prefer the south (have grown SO tired of Chicago and the northeast after 15 years). Have turned down many possibilities over pay but that was due to coming from Crete at 45cpm 4 years ago and now, looking around, 32-35cpm is no longer considered low pay, so I may just have to adjust (though Shaffer is bragging they are returning to 2007 pay scales so I may reconsider rejoining them). Smaller outfits and O/Os just don't seem to have the newer equipment, higher pay, and decent benies I have gotten used to over the years, but as I say, it may be time to set my sights lower. We'll see.

Thanks to the others for the flowers as well - funny thing is my employment since December has mirrored a romantic relationship I have also been in that has slowly deteriorated in the last 4 months- yeah, I said goodbye to her today as well, LOL!
oh well, more time to play at the firehall for the next few weeks!bb.

I agree. Good drivers are a rarity these days. When you do find a good one, you want to hold onto them.

I am sorry that things didn't work out on both the career and personal front. Things tend to work out for the best, even though we don't always see it at the time.

As I stated in an earlier post, Frost runs reefers out of North Georgia. They haul carpet out to the left coast. They have new or newer equipment. If you want to run the west coast I would also check with some of the carpet manufacturers. I don't know anything about the pay or benefits with any of them. Some carriers list their jobs with the state employment offices. You could check with them, too.

Thanks G/Man, I saw that and looked them up and hope to ride down there Monday to talk to someone. Have had my apps in (and resubmitted, and resubmitted, and ...) with Shaw and Mohawk for years, very hard to get in with them (Shaw shut down a couple of local plants during the recession). Again, my stubborness, have turned down two offers in the past year to smaller outfits in N Ga who run carpet because they run north, not west. I'm thinking if I can get the loan I am going to sit out July and try to line up something for August. Appreciate the info.bb.
