What's up with the push for so many new drivers?

I do believe the CSA2010 was passed in the early 2000 era I will look it up.

 

Congratulations Rug Trucker, you get it. The vast majority of the minions don't! When there is a "shortage" the value of the item in short supply goes up...look at the price of corn and beans.

I'm not seeing any measureable pay increases in this industry. Yeah, there's a penny or two here and there BUT there were also cuts a few years ago.

When wages surge a dime or so a mile then I might buy into this driver shortage nonsense...until then it's just a myth!

There has been the claim of a shortage of drivers for almost forever, just to keep up the supply of new drivers.

I think most people miss the point of the driver 'shortage'.
Thousands come into and leave this industry every year. They have to keep recruiting to keep their numbers 'stable'.
Now if driver pay increased reasonably, many drivers wouldn't leave.
ergo...no shortage.
But as long as there are lines of people willing to come in and drive, there is no incentive to increase pay. so the myth continues.
I can guarantee you, that if driver pay went up a dime today, many drivers would stay and put up with the industry.
It's money that turns the machine.

 

They have been ringing my phone off the hook. I had applied last year, but decided to stay with my current carrier. I have not called them back yet, but they are willing to start me off at about .05 per mile than the company I've been at for the past 5 years. I do have a friend that worked for them for 32 years, he just retired about 2 years ago, and he said that they used to be a great company to work for, but no so much the past few years, that is why he retired. He still had a few more years in him, but he had enough and got out.

 

I went on the site for the CSA2010 regulations trying to find out who started the regulations, could not find it oldest thing was tests in 2004. They estimated that between 1 and 2 hundred thousand drivers would loose there jobs when the new standards are fully in effect.
