The vast, vast, vast majority of the membership here is good people. Yourself included in my opinion, Winchester.
Unless a post is a blatant disregard of the rules of the forum, a warning is sent to the offender before infractions are passed out. That's what I've seen since I've been a mod. Not familiar with your situation Winchester, but I have a feeling if it was posted in politics, there would have been no issue.
On a whole different topic, any member can report a post, but don't expect or think the staff will fight any battles on your behalf. Some members just rub some others the wrong way. Best way to handle that is to put them on your Ignore list.
Just go to your User CP (Control Panel), Under the Settings and Options section, click on the Edit Ignore List. There's instructions on how to use this feature.
Admin Edit: You can also get to your ignore list with this link: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/profile.php?do=ignorelist
