Follow me with Swift...

Well good for you that you finished your training with the company I know is hard and difficult but can be done, I used to work for Swift and after my training I waited about 1 month before they call me to get my truck, after that, things were very slow, but as you prove yourself (like any other company) things get better...I am no longer with them after 2 years, will not say is bad or good but I can say is not the worse company out there, so good luck in getting your truck and doing your first solo run...
With the log book, you can have one log book page and add all your off duty time together, I will suggest to keep it separated by months... Eg If you are off duty from today 06/16 to 06/30, just fill the basic information on your log book, with today's date, also do 24 hrs off duty status and make sure you write down 15 days on the little box that explains how many days, including today...on your comments/remarks section just do City and State and Off Duty, that should explain it.

 

If swift will let you carry multiple days on one page then yes. THE ONLY exception that I can think of is DO NOT carry over from month to month, IE- 5/29/11 - 6/20/11. In this case <----- You'll need to pages!!

I have a feeling they give you the older trucks when you start for exactly this reason As much as you think you know it all, there's still plenty to learn. Especially from a truck with 500,000 miles.

Def some sort of Rookie mistake. ESP why they hand out the "used up" trucks. I really hope they don't fire him!!!! He put up w/ the normal BS on getting into the industry, and then learning that something goes wrong WHENEVER you least expect it!

GOOD LUCK w/ them Love2Shift. Keep us updated if they keep you around or not. Hopefully since it wasn't a road accident they'll give him another chance.

BTW L2S- 500k is just now gettin broken in for ya!!!

 

Well not a good start for sure.. In the future make sure you have a tube of grease to grease the fifth wheel yourself.. Hopefully they will give you a pass.. Most mechanics at these big companies are nothing more than a part monkey with a wrench.. I worked for Swift my 1st yr, and did not believe half the crap they told me..

 

i always lookin in the mirrors to see if the wheels are turning.
in the north you get frozen brakes in winter so you get in the habit especially with 4 axles.
thats a bad deal for op the way trucking is these days.
if there is no police repot he wil have a good dmv record though

Is he trying to say he forgot to lock the 5th wheel and the trailer fell off and tipped over because the landing gear was raised?

 

I once saw a Swifty drag a trailer a quarter mile through a business park with the trailer brakes full on, apparently totally unaware. The skid marks were visible for at least 9 months after until they resealed the asphalt.
