Prime: Orientation and Training?

Hi my husband and I are hoping to be employed as team drivers at prime. I have looked at many companies, Prime seems to have the best training for newbies.. My hubby got approved and will be going to orientation march 29th. What should he bring with him? I know he will probably be gone for possibly 4-6 weeks. Besides lots of underwear and socks, what else? This forum has been a God send and the wealth of info is overwhelming. Looking forward to being an active member of this site.

New to forum, after a year of surfing this forum Prime driving school is at the top of my list. Would like to hear from any Prime drivers and trainers that are in the Pacific northwest. I am in southern Oregon, thanks

 

do you need to bring any money with you on your first day????? i heard you need to bring $100 if so what is this used for????

 

Like absolutely every other driving school in the country - before you are employed - you are responsible for paying for your DOT physical and CDL permit fees. It's part of the "tuition."

...just like I had to pay to a third-party (not Prime) school that I went through.

Yup... it helps to have some cash with you. Prime will cover your room and meals while in Springfield, and advance you $200 a week on your fuel card while you're a student driver on-the-road. You aren't employed, getting a paycheck, until after you get your CDL. They'll take repayment at $25 a week after that. So it helps to have money with you... for anything else you might need - and you don't have to take that $200 per week either, if you can afford to support yourself for a bit.

 

Your recruiter should tell you, $150. $100 will go to Prime, $32.50 is what the CDL permit costs. The leftover is in case you need it or want to get a snack/crap elsewhere.

I will probably head for training the end of July (got to get my life/wife set up beforehand ) and have read through a lot of these topics. Keep up the good work all.

Question about when you are with your instructor... how does this training go? Will you start out just learning the PreTrips and the truck, and then a few miles at a time, or do you get in the truck with them and go, go, go? Just curious...
