2012 Volvo 780 Owners?

    I recently got into my own truck (yay) and ill be posting pictures soon, but one thing happened to me today that could have been a VERY bad thing. Let me give you the setup:

    Filled up before bed, woke up, drove, and drove and drove, all told probably around 14 hours of drive time + 8 hours of idle.

    Gauge still said full at the end of the day, parked at a loves and went in to take a shower, come out and the gauge is below a quarter of a tank.

    The guage went from full to 1/4 tank or less just by sitting.

    Now, my question is, is that a 'feature' of the volvo that the guages set themselves after being stopped or is this a common problem? Perhaps because the truck is brand new the sensors are still breaking in?

    I just dont wanna get stranded outta gas :p


    Now this is not a 'flame volvo' thread or anything. Legit question on my new truck.

    Other than that? I love this truck so far :) Roomy, comfortable, lots of storage, quiet....

    Thank you for telling me somthing I already knew. There are some minor flaws though good sir a 'ten cent' stake at home depot would not work for a multatude of reasons:

    1: It would not get past the anti siphon thing
    2: It would not get through the fuel mesh.
    3: It would cost more than 10 cents.
    4: Dont want debris in my tank

    Now, thank you for also NOT awnsering the question I put at hand, I was well aware of my fuel level, I keep notes and a flashlight and know how to tap a tank.

    My question was directed at someone who owns a volvo 780, not the peanuts that think they are being cute. :)

    Volvo's are known for faulty fuel gauge 1 of many things Volvo cant get right

    There are possibilities in a few areas:

    Yes Volvo's are known for fuel sensor problems, I had to replace mine. When mine went bad it read way much lower than what was actually in the tank.

    If you are noticing sudden changes in fuel level while the engine is on, you may have a bad proportioning valve, that decides which side to send the returning fuel to. Plugged tank vents can also do this, but I'm not sure how a '12 is set up. My truck also has fuel shut off valves, but only on the passenger side tank, if these were bumped or not fully open could give you trouble.

    Your truck was new, and probably sat with full tanks for a while at the dealer till you got it. So the float level was probably stuck at said setting.

    Not to be s####y, but you should know that by driving all day, your truck will not still be at the full level and you should have known something was wrong after the 1st 200 miles.

    Second, a fuel gauge is just really a dummy light. You should know that your truck gets Xmpg and can go X miles before needing fuel. It's just common sense.

    SInce it is a brand new truck, take it to the dealer and have it fixed. No biggie

    I didn't know something was wrong that's why I was checking constantly wants I stopped was being as accurate as I could to get a goood responce or two, which I have gitten thanks all

    In '06 I got a Century with 40K on it and the gauge was stuck on full. Idiot before me drove it for 40k miles and never got it fixed. Shop said new trucks of all makes have this issue but should have dropped and started working long ago. Turned out that something was bent or broken on mine.

    Isnt it amazing the things that are wrong straight from the factory on these $100k+ vehicles and the things that drivers will just ignore and let go. Kind of funny, people buy a $100k truck and almost expect certain things to be messed up but if a person bought a car for that price you would beat a dealerships door down if it came off of the lot with a faulty gauge.
