Go see "The Red Army" in Timmins and apply for an "entry level position" and work your way up to being a driver.

Thanks MGFG, If those other potential jobs don't pan out, I will give that a try. Applied there once before with just a resume but never heard back but there was only one opening for a driver so they probably hired someone with more experience.

Also wanted to mention that since Schneider is an American company, there is a DAC report on me from them. On it, the two accidents are listed, but also that I quit, not that I was fired, and also that I am eligible for rehire upon review. For work record they list "other".
They have a website where potential future employers can register and obtain this DAC. They call it employee or driver verification or something like that.
Does anybody know if the DBL's give out references or if a potential employer can only get the info through this website?

I think the US has a lot more unemployed drivers and wannabee drivers than Canada. I read about some of your beginner pay rates and they are much higher than the US. Oversupply of out of work drivers in the US means companies drive down wages and gives less of a chance to newbies, plus we have new regulations in effect this year. He put in 20 applications with no call backs.Werner put eligible for rehire with review in his DAC they told him to come back in 6 months. He was told by a recruiter from USexpress, that only Werner can clear his DAC now.He doesn't care at this point,he got a non driving job, making $18 per hour to start, 40 hour week and home every night. At least he's working paying his bills.Sometimes ,ya gotta roll with the punches and move on.
To answer your ? about DAC, all large trucking companies in the US check DAC,smaller outfits may not use it.What is DBL?

DBL stands for DRIVER BUISINESS LEADER - a supervisor, go to guy for questions about payroll, bennies or whatever else. If he couln't answer a question he'd refer me to the department that could. DBL's don't do dispatching as load assignments came to us through the qualcomm. (from where - I don't know - sometimes mars I guess, lol). Sorry to hear about what happened to your son. I think that's rotton. Sometimes a driver has no choice but to hard brake ie: a kid runs out in front of the truck, someone crosses your path on a red at an intersection while you're proceeding through on a green, etc... I've seen experienced drivers do it at red lights just becuase they didn't catch the red soon enough. As a matter of fact, one of my trainers at SNI did it....she just finished saying "this street has traffic lights at every intersection but if you catch a green on the first one, you'll catch a green on everyone that follows", I guess she wasn't paying attention cuz the light at the next intersection had turned yellow and then red by the time she noticed and she just slammed on the brakes. It made a nice kla klonk and squealing sound but she got 'er stopped at the line. She also used to read her map on the steering wheel with a flashlight at night while she was driving. I would never do this - way too distracting.

    Not too familiar with Timmins.

I know transpro and manitoulin are there. I think erb is there. Lots of logging and chip trucks running around that area. Couldn't hurt to go to the esso and talk to some of the local guys, could get some leads that way.

I think miller and another company that does highway construction are there too, could be a way to get into a truck.

No I don't think I will mention the lights or the tight space when I'm trying to explain all this to a recruiter - thanks for pointing how how that looked, I didn't realized it appeared I was making excuses. I was just trying to demonstrate for readers how tight the space was and explaining why I didn't use an obvious tool (the utility lights) thinking someone would ask "why didn't you use the utility lights". I know I have absolutely no excuse and that both incidents were 100% avoidable. I wasn't speeding through the parking lot just smashing everything in sight (as one poster seeming made it sound "you don't just keep driving until you hit things"). These were what's known as slow manouvering accidents and according to the safety rep at SNI who told us "90% of new drivers will have an accident within their first year". I was always super vigilant and cautious on the road but I guess at the end of a long hard day, I was tired and being in the parking lot I let my guard down, assumed things I shouldn't have. In the future, I'll use the most obvious tool - my legs.
Thanks for telling me about those other drivers.:biggrin_25514:
