With some of the unique challenges that we are going to be facing here more and more of I thought that a thread for us to get together on would be warranted.

It seems as though CA is taking the incrementalist route in getting the emissions crap shoved down our throats here, I got the postcard saying that 53' box vans now HAVE to be compliant with the fairings and low rolling resistance tires as it is going to be being enforced strictly (by whom I don't know).

Are the claims being made of 7.5% fuel savings on these fairings legitimate? It seems like a no brainer to go for them if that's the case but the fact that you're not seeing many people do it until the HAVE to makes me doubt the validity of that number.

I still just find it hard to believe that in 2014 the older "non-compliant" trucks are going to be deemed obsolete and taken off the road in CA. I know that they're telling us that it is FOR SURE going to happen but how can they tell you you cant run a truck and not compensate you for it? All of this is just making it hard to plan for the future for business owners in CA and I think if all of this really goes down the way they say it's going to it's going to lead me to just taking my business and residency elsewhere. I would have to think a lot of revenue for the state would be moving elsewhere in just the same manner.

I'd love to hear what other buisiness owners in the state have to say about all of this and what exactly your plans to comply or not comply are going to be.

I will be moving out of the state. It's easy for me since I don't own any real estate. I pull a skateboard so no side skirts for me, but my '06 KW will need DPF retrofit. I think I have a better use of my $25k than making my truck "CARB compliant" to please some watermelon bureaucrats (green skin is cover up for red commie inside).

As far as I'm concerned, the real problem is there's no shortage of idiot voters who keep voting in power-hungry, control-freak progressives and liberals (both Dems and Pubs), who in turn will be in charge of appointing power-hungry, control-freak progressive/liberal bureaucrats like those in CARB, etc. Let them find out groceries don't grow on store shelves and suffer the consequences of what they asked for. I want no part of it.

Besides, Al Gore sez Arizona will be the new oceanfront in a few years. :biggrin_25522:

I would not "sweat" it too much. The politicians are in a "#### if they do #### if they don't" situation. Outsiders don't understand the complexities here in this jacked up state. Political collapse is coming forth. Not today, or tomorrow. Their trying to keep the state afloat, but the they dig themselves deeper. Default like Greece. :)

Being in a position where I am able to and willing to expand my company I'd love to know what kind of truck I am going to need to buy to do so. I think for myself and maybe some others in my position the most maddening thing right now is not knowing if I can get some cheaper older trucks to put to work and have them be able to run for more than 2 1/2 yrs.

I would love to see the political collapse as has been forecast by many here in CA. Fact of the matter is that things here in CA are not even close to sustainable and I think the only way it's all going to get better is to blow the whole thing up.

This whole carb compliant thing is kinda a good news/bad news thing. Rates are so cheap in and out that this will force some guys out of business in the state and many others. like me, that just won't take loads into the state. This will have a postitive effect on rates.

Grew-up in So Cal and moved out several years ago. Do not miss it one bit. Well, miss living in Big Bear but you can have the rest.

The real secret for running in Cali is to become a Designated Business such as a MBE, DBE, or a HOBE.......

In some cases they can obtain exemptions and nearly all are eligible for "No-bid" Government contracts and SBA loans.....

Cali is all about equality and Political Correctness....
