I have been looking to rejoin the driving industry, but without much luck as of yet. I'm wondering if it's possible for an O/O to hire me in order that i may regain experience and subsequently get on with a company. I will be relocating to Georgia in a few weeks, and am looking forward to any and all advice. Thanks in advance and Happy Trucking to All!

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

do you have to relocate to ga?
-
Yes, relocating is unavoidable at this point. Why do you ask 2hellandback?
-
Would be easier to get you home in tx than ga.

Welcome to the forum. I'm looking to get back in with no recent experience. I'm still closing out a Broadband project I'm working on so I haven't made the jump yet. Since I have done a lot of research, I'll share my findings.
As I'm sure you have discovered the "mega-companies" want to retrain you. Schneider said they would take me with an approved refresher course and a short company training run. I can get this through a local training company for $1333. A local community college will soon be doing this and I expect it will cost less than half that amount and likely be better training. I have spoken to a couple of small owner/operators or fleet operators. It is possible to get hired this way. They seem to value old experience over new training.
IMHO, if you can drive and pass the road test, you just have two hurdles to jump over. You have to find someone to give you a chance. This will take a little time and effort. And you have to be approved by their insurance. This may vary greatly from one to another.
Keep your eyes open in this section. There are opportunities from time to time. Check out this thread:

Give Tom a call or pre-qualify on his website. I'm not sure if he still has an opening. This will give you a better idea of what your chances are. Good luck.
