How do you all maintain being on the road for so long then being home only 2 days then back out...? My goal is to get a regional or local job.

We love the road more than our homes. After we're home for a day or two, we can't wait to "leave out".

Allow Me basically covered it all in a nutshell. After I'm home for a day or two I have to get back on the road but how do I deal with it? I always talk to the wife and son on the phone or video call via the laptop every night and it seems to do okay.

    Lonestar956 Thanks this.

i'm lucky enough to have a wife who is on board with and turned on by what i do.....but, having said that, she also understands that i'm earning a living to keep a roof over our heads, keep the bills paid and provide us with a reasonable standard of living and that i'm a different kind of guy and not the normal 9 to 5 type and that i'm doing what i enjoy doing....she is, by all accounts a rare gem of a woman that i feel very lucky to be with going on 7 years now.....we talked for almost a year and went over the pros and cons of the career change and every possible scenario we could think of of things that would happen for her while i was gone and how she would handle it......she was and is as much a partner in my decision to go on the road as she is keeper of the house when i'm gone

we talk every day, make sure that niether of us goes to bed without talking before we do, and make sure that the first thing we do is talk before we get our days started, no matter what point in the day that may be for me lol.....

when i'm home, we make sure we spend time together and do things together....generally, she's waiting at the door no matter what time it is when i roll in...

communication and trust is the key to making it work doing what we do.....if you don't have those two things, and especially the trust in each other, then it will never work.

as much as i love being out on the road and doing what i do.....i have a hell of an incentive to get home safely and enjoy the time i'm there as well.....

Back in the day, trucking is the only thing that helped me keep my sanity.

It's always easy to get back on the road from a lil hometime. The thought of running errands, cutting grass, having to chat with bill collectors, fight my neighbors for parking and the ridiculous thought of trying to live without income seem to be pretty good driving forces for me. What drives u???
