I made my way home yesterday and going thru the wonderful hills of colorado, my check engine light comes on. The light comes on when I'm going down hill with the jakes on but as soon as I blip the throttle-the light goes off. Light dosent come on going up hill but just down hill only with jakes on.

Any idea what this could be, dealer couldn't replicate the problem.

    Thank You

    Opps sorry- 04 columbia - 14l/series 60 detroit- 13 spd trans eaton-

If it matters, I was loaded to the tee- 79,110. The mechanic told me it could be thin air. I have no idea if he was just messing with me or was serious.

Check engine light is related with engine control unit, you may have DEEC-IV ore DEEC-V.

Use dashboard to pull stored MID 128 codes. There is a button on right edge of dashboard.... use it... You can use Shutdown Overide button to get blink codes flashed with CHECK ENGINE lamp. But the first way is better

I had a similiar problem with my 2000 Century with a C15. The high jake would cut out and then I would get a check engine light. Replacing the two solenoids that controlled the jakes cured the problem.

probally is a code 39 boost jake power. could be anything within the egr system. code is for too much egr flow or too much boost while jake brake is on. could just be a software update too.

As I remember the problem was in DEEC-IV units only. Ufter reflashing code dissapeared forever, but they offered Low NOx software and engine responce was delayed a bit, and lower low end torque

Okay- dropped the truck off at a different place to figure this out. They are a bit busy but will call me as they get to it.

I did forget to mention that the PSI gauge would jump just a tad bit as well. I havent felt any loss of power or any other changes.
