Close, but not quite right. The "garments" (underclothes) they wear are basically all-cotton t-shirts and shorts of very thin fabric. Everyone in my family is LDS (Mormon) except myself. I have many friends who are current or were formerly Mormons themselves. I live in the middle of Zion (Utah).
As far as people go, they are like any other. There is one prevailing difference, though. A difference that marks them culturally and it is very much the same as the difference that marks similar religions (Judaism, Islam, etc.). That difference is the idea that they are "chosen" and everyone else is not.
While not all of them purely believe this and not all of them are a-holes that will stab you in the back because you aren't one of them, enough of them are this way that it is a real cultural phenomenon.
The whole point of it is that this culture they've created is why it is so hard, on many levels, for someone outside of it to make it anywhere inside this state.
That hold is breaking, slowly, now that the Mormons are not the majority anymore, but it's slow in coming.

As far as the chosen people? Well, when the Wasatch fault gives way one day and it will in time, it will bury many of the chosen people who live at the base of the mountains.
Nature has a way with dealing with anyone and everyone over time; chosen or not, they are chosen. I wonder how many will think they are chosen when the poles reverse themselves again as it does every 3,500 plus years?
When was the last time? During the time of Isaiah? Or was that just a major earthquake that is referenced in the Bible and other religious documents? (approximately 3,500 years ago)
Years ago, I started making comments about selling ocean front property in Arizona (after reading Dr. Geoffery Goodmans' book). Then came a song using the same quote. I wonder if the song writer read the same book?
Chosen people? We are all chosen but our destiny is unknown until fulfilled. Still I loved my time in Utah as I was chosen to serve my country for a time in that beautiful state.

Lucky, I've stood at the corner of 13th south and 13th east, looked at that hill sloping down westward towards 7th east, and thought exactly that. Also, the soil along the Wasatch front is not much more than sand, meaning that when the quake comes, all the houses in happy valley are going to come tumbling down. Yes, karma will have caught up with Utah when the big day comes.

I believe ya, Trying to give 'em the benefit of the doubt, but I should know better. Thanks for setting me straight.

I guess it does not matter, but just wondering why you are flying the Hammer and Sickle?
It is a fact 95% of all American's have no idea what Freedom is, was or the fact it is going into the toilet and the worst thing is they could stop it, but are not smart enough; Yet, it does not take a genius to figure it out!
Now, this statement will tick a bunch of people off, but like the end of the world is coming for most human life real soon, most won't believe it until it happens.
Am I concerned about it? No! Am I concerned about survival skills for those I care about? Yes! However, they are not smart enough to sit down and pay attention either.
The US is crumbling all around us and people know we are in trouble, but very few understand why, or even have an idea. The answer is in a quote from US History, but I won't use that quote now. I will simply say to all US Citizens, "I need you, and You need Me, as together we make US!" What does the "US" stand for?
If every citizen was engaged in a program spending money on themselves; say $10, $12, or even $30 of which is not much, the public debt could disappear in a few months. Will they? No! Why?
Like the empty warehouse in the morning that is full by noon and empty again by end of day; money is flowing like a river in this country, but it is all flowing one way; out of pocket.
Tears will be falling like rain very soon if all the economic indicators are telling the story. They have been pointing the same direction for far too long and the signs are now showing on a daily basis, Nationally and Internationally.
So, wave the Hammer and Sickle if you must, but flags won't matter very soon.
I shed my tears for Old Glory and the Constitution and I am saddened by the future outlook for my grandchildren who don't have a chance, as our national economic statistics show 95% failure rate for all American Citizens.
What is Freedom?
What is Independence?
What is Liberty?
Can we have any of this without being Capitalists? No!
Will we engage where it makes a difference? No!
Should we just throw in the towel and give up? No! We won't do that, but we won't do what we should do to save our country and our freedom either!
Will we all fail? Yes; even those who think they have it made today because they have a bank account and property! They don't have a clue!
We are all on the same boat and when it sinks, we all go down together; the poor, the lazy, the uneducated, the college graduate, the ambitious, the wealthy and a percentage of the rich; Jew, Gentile, Muslim, Mormon, Catholic, Buddhist, etc, etc, etc. . .
Why? Because, it is no longer about the "US"! It is about the "ME"!
The fall of the US Economy, along with the devastation of the World Economy will only be the preclude to the miseries of the world.
Yes, I Have Seen the Freedom Tree

Yes, I have seen the freedom tree,
Cut down before liberty's decree.
Felled by one who could not lie!
Trunk and branches lay and die!
When the storm was or the land,
Cherries dropped like falling sand.
Fruit of passion, brave hearts stand
Proclaiming liberty in our new land!
Freedom was the battle shout
Let no country ever doubt;
Give me Liberty or give me death,
Freedom fighters put to the test.
Cherry red, the soil soaked through
Soldiers stand so brave and true;
Offering their all for you and I
Listen people to freedoms cry.
Yes, I have seen the freedom tree
Political choices abound I see;
Party favors for each and all,
Special interests standing tall!
Political correctness some will say
Common sense has had its day.
Poor Ben Franklin lay in tears,
Corruption grown beyond his years!
Laziness, coupled with complacency,
Taxes paid for citizen dependency
Freedom dying on the vine;
Capitalism faltering! Should we resign?
Give up your freedom, lose your life,
Politicians have named your price.
Sold your soul and spent your bread,
What shame the price, those who bled!
For freedoms glory, Security in trade
Independence gone, cut with a blade!
Give up your life for promises sublime,
Reap your blessings, its crying time.
Yes, I have seen the Freedom Tree,
Once standing proudly for all to see!
Laying now, upon the ground,
Tears and sadness all around!
The world will start over, but knowing the history of Human beings on this planet, I don't think I want to be part it. Perhaps I am just tired along with all the gray hair.
Leadership in Washington DC? Leadership in Churches? Leadership anywhere? Any Capitalists left? Turn out the lights, the parties over!
I will be departing soon. Perhaps not to visit this forum again. It has been interesting and I look forward to reading more as I probably engage less. -
Fran is seven years my Senior, and has led a life many only dream about.
Great guy. Wish he had taken his team with him, but he chose to go a different direction. -
Brakes smokin' , guy in spotless rig, riding down mountains into SLC, UT. Imagine the seals were gone on hubs. Don't know why he let that happen, or ignore the cb radio advice from others...

That's a good read, Lucky. My friends and I have come to the conclusion that 'the end' will be upon us soon. There are too many people in the world as it is, yet we're adding a new Los Angeles every year to our numbers. There is no way that can be maintained.
There's no way we can have 9 billion folks on Planet E by 2050, so yes, it's all gonna fall hard fairly soon.
Don't worry about my avatar. It's a joke designed to piss off those who think avatars are important when people are starving to death in the world. Some of those are little kids. God is great. God is good.
In Utah I saw lots of people who would become offended at the slightest things. They weren't really offended by these things, mind you, they just liked to control those who weren't in the fold. This was just another form of their subtle control there. If something is offensive to these guys, and lots of things are to the average Utahn, they throw a ##### fit in a lame attempt to get it out of their sight. Even when these people go overseas they act like they own the ground they stand on. I tell these people they should be glad they live in a country where their bellies are full (thanks to other people's hard work) and thus can worry about silly things that offend them. I then remind them of what's going on in Africa. I think about three kids die there every second of every day in Africa now, so I kindly (sometimes) inform them that I don't give a rat's ### about their petty concerns.
Hence, the avatar, and my overall attitude towards these people.
