This was my thinking too. I' believe you can find something going this route. Be prepared for some sharks trolling this website that will tell you that you won't be able to get into this industry without going to a cdl mill school.

And I' am not talking about any Millis drivers. They are a good group of guys.

Millis Training Institute is not a cdl mill anyway. They run a tight ship with very small classes. Maybe like 5 MAX.

If I' can't get on with Millis for some reason then I' will go back to my original plan then apply with Watkins Shepard as they are a good company as well.

I have done a lot of reading on schools and what not. This one sounds really good, they have the PTDI, and the driving is 1 on 1 with just the instructor in the truck with you. They are setup with the state to do the Road test right where I am going to school too. Their facility is setup to do testing the state.

I am pretty sure WS is a good company too. I have read thru many pages of American Truckers Blog with WS. I have some pretty good respect for AT, he is doing very well with him self. I think that young man has his head on his sholders and has some very good work ethics too.

I' don't think you can go wrong. My thinking is the same as yours. I' don't like being obligated to anyone as a general rule. But my circumstances have changed thus so has my thinking. 'I like what I' have read about Millis and will be in a better position to go through their school down the road.

I' forgot to mention Crete. I' think they hire graduates too. Not many complaints coming from them either.

If you are already set up to go to SAGE then 'I would say go for it. It cant' hurt and you will have your CDL when you are done. And you should be able to find a driving job when you are done.

If I could ask, if you had a list of 5 companies you would like to go to who would they be??

I have not looked at Crete, but I will.

In order from first choice, Millis, Watkins Shepard, Crete, Boyd Bros (flatbed), and not sure who would be fifth yet. I am still researching.

Most people on here that work for Boyd Bros seem to be happy but I am not sure what kind of miles those guys are getting. Best I could tell it seemed a little too low for my liking but you don't know till you go work for them. They hire school graduates as well by the way.

I am not sure I would want to run flatbeds or not, but funny you say that, I just came across Boyd Bros in a trucking paper the school gave me.

It sounds like you and I are trying to go down the same road.

Yeah, I have heard good things about them. I have not looked into them real good yet but I will.

FedEx fits in somewhere on my list but I was waiting until I had some experience before I ventured there. I have a connection there...hehehe
