Hello everyone, I would like to say i joined this forum because after some choice words in google search i found this forum which obviously saved me a hell of a time with c.r. england. so im glad i found you guys and gals. I have always thought about how much i would love to be a truck driver. But i would much rather be a local or regional driver. Hope that doesn't throw yall off to me. But being from Hobbs, New Mexico aka south eastern NM there are loads of jobs fro CDL drivers in the oil field. I have 4 months under the table experience driving a dump truck hauling sand in houston for a man contracted out by a stabilized sand company. For me it was easy. Never drove a dump truck before and barely had about 4 months experience driving a standard car lol. But for me driving comes natural. I love driving just as much as i did when i first started. So i got a NM cdl manual and im reading it well. From what my father in law told me, I can get a cdl permit if i pass my written exam and go along with someone to learn the more skilled part of it. Now if i had a tractor trailer and 2 days to play with it i would probably get it down pretty good. but this is the real world and it dont work that way. so i can get a permit and try that or try to get the money to go the the jr college training school. but i have no way to pay for that myself. Anyone been in my position hve any tips or help for me? and sorry about the huge post.

Welcome aboard. Glad you joined us. I suggest that you ask your questions in the Questions from new drivers section. I believe it will get a lot more attention there. Good luck and keep us posted.

Welcome to the forum and yes this forum does save you headaches and time if you read the threads and do some research. Most of the Jr. College and other schools like them will have better training but you do have to pay for them somehow. If you qualify for grants thats great then you don't have to pay those back. If you qualify for student loans that is good because you don't need the money upfront but you will have to pay loan back at some point and time.

If you want regional only it will be harder and in order to get you training you would more then likly have to got to one of the colleges to get your CDL. If you can put up with OTR for a year or two you can go to one of the companies that train get your training and some experince and then transfer to regional.
