I live in NW Florida and have been trying to find employment in Texas ( oil field etc...) but nobody seems interested because I live out of state. I plan on moving back there but just have to find a good paying job over there and start working before I can move my family there but just cant seem to get hooked up with anything. I have clean record with experience but no luck. It might sound like Im being pickey but Im trying to stay in a T/T, I like what I drive, I take pride in it and I consider myself a professional not a steering wheel holder. Does anybody have a idea where I can look that I might have luck finding employment over there?

Do you have any family or friends in TX or if you possibly run into a oil hauler can you befriend them and use their address? Most of those companies are probably hesitant to hire you because if there a local outfit they might not want to give the impression that they uncut their local canidates out of jobs. Otherwise let the company know what your intent is and ask what can be done in your situation. Also how do you plan to take the job with no residence? Do you plan to live out of the truck until you find a place? Or you trying to hedge this job against your future? Make sure you plan it out it well and best of luck going forward!!!

I have family in North Texas but it seems most of the work is in south Texas. It seems some companys have housing, if I can get one of those that would work out and if the truck had a sleeper Ill live out of it because at this point I need to do what I need to do so I can make some money and move my family back to Texas. Theres just more and better choices over there for work.

I've looked into this so I'll share some information that might help.

Most company housing is full. You need another plan for housing. This doesn't mean you can't get it if it's available. It just means they might not look close at you if that is your only plan.

In my estimation, well over 90% of the trucks working the oilfield run 24 hours a day. This means that sleeper use is not an option. These are local jobs and if you don't approach them this way, the perspective employer realizes you don't have realistic expectations. I have only found one possibility that would allow use of a sleeper and not require me finding housing.

Google "room & board" and you will find people wanting to rent out rooms, in their homes, with use of appliances, utilities and most everything you need. They run around $350 - $ 500 where I was looking. Some require a deposit and first months rent, some first and last months rent. They are much cheaper than $550 - $700 for an apartment plus utilities. In addition, nobody I spoke with expected a contract with a specific term like apartments.

Since these are local jobs, online applications are a waste of time. But being old school, I would never use online anyway, I want a chance to sell myself and my plan. IMHO, the way to get these jobs, in best order, in-person, referal from employee, by phone.

    Good luck!

I don't know if North Dakota is on the table or not. Did you see this?

I'm looking at this company in Texas. The thing I'm saying is if they are advertising in ND, the chances go up and the terms become more flexible.

I understand the tough financial times. I'd bet if you were there (TX or ND) knocking on doors, you would get a water hauling job in less than a week. I feel timing and a personal presentation will win everytime.

Trucking is different, but when I hired for service work, two things made the deal. Work history and the impression that the applicant made. I'd give someone, with black marks and a good presentation, a chance over a perfect candidate that talked a line of bull every time.

Had a offer today running flatbed for a o/o at .27 a mile plus tarp pay, that seemed low to me but it would work out because I wouldnt need housing but thats pretty low. Ill hold my head high for a little while longer before I give up.

Still on the hunt, the guy with the flatbed was paying .25 cpm not 27 I told him I would pass on that. I thought that was pretty low for flatbed work. Im still working on finding decent employment over there rather its oil field work or not as long as it pays good and I can move family over but time will tell.

    BigJohn54 Thanks this.

Check out old west oil field services, they have some jobs that you can stay in the truck and some in ND that provide housing. Not sure if they have any in TX but it is worth a shot. I almost went with them but was offered a job at a chemical plant the day before they called and offered me a job. But, if for some reason it fails I'll know where to look.
