Rooster - thanks for the kind words. At my age I dont have any other choice than to go at this with a good attitude. I have lived in corporate america for 24 years and what you read/see on these forms is no different than what I have experienced from that industry as well. Only difference is the "whinners" make 6 figure incomes but doesnt keep them from "whinning" just as much.
I will always keep an eye out for the good/bad and even the ugly but know from many years of experience, if it doesnt pertain to me or effect me - then I will not worry about it or spend time talking about it!
Looking forward to being back at training tomorrow and learning more!

I have applied for MTI. While I have driven OTR before, for 7 years, I was last in a truck 10 years ago and it would be good for me.
As for e-logs, I used to work in dispatch for a 3PL, and I will tell you this: soon enough, any trucking company with more than 300 trucks is going to be doing it. It is too costly in fines/accidents to not. And that is if the DOT does not mandate it at some point. So, I am not worried about e-logs. Better that than having a company dicking me around all day when trying to get a load and then making me drive all night to deliver it, like Ozark did when I drove for them. -
Hey for training in Cartersville, did you drive your own car down and then will be picked up by a trainer around your home, or how did that work?
-
I drove my own car since I came from Kentucky. I will either leave my car at the terminal, meet my trainer at his house so when he is on home time I can head home also or be picked up from my home in Ky. Not sure which one it will be just yet. Should know more tomorrow as all we are doing now is paper work and getting our fuel cards and id's.

Ok thanks, I know you will keep us posted.

Hey everyone. I just paid my $100 and start in Cartersville July 12. I actually drove up to the hub in Cartersville the other night and talked with a couple of drivers in the lounge and both of them seemed very happy. I am really looking forward to starting. Hopefully i will make it thru the class and get to meet you'll.

If you really think about the job guarantee it makes sense. One of the morons in my class said something about guns and drugs to his trainer and got driven straight to Black River Falls so that Mike Millis could tell him to his face to take a hike. If you can't drive or turn out to be a total tool they simply are not going to give you a job. Writing into a contract that they will would be stupid and Millis is never stupid. They have been at this a very long time and know exactly what they are doing. That can be a bad thing too BTW. One of the other guys in my class thought he knew more about the business and tried to run a game or two on them. He drives for someone else now.

What do you mean "tried to run a game". Did he just think he knew it all? Or just act like a Billy Big Rig idiot? Or what...I hear there are 11 in my upcoming class March 14th in Cartersville. I just wonder how many will be there in the end. -
Trust me - The instructor there knows the game very well and will weed out the ones he "know's" wont make it. It's no different with any company. No reason to spend money training if they are a good fit. One of the biggest expenses with any company is Hiring and training employees.
It's not just do Millis fit you - it's also "do you fit with Millis". I am glad they do this - you'll see what I mean once you get started. -
Hello to all,
Just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. I will be attending the Catersville July 5th class so (GA NEWBIE) I may see ya there. I also wanted to take this time to say how much I really appreciate you all for taking the time to post these blogs for myself and others that are green coming into this profession. It really does help to make the tough decision on who "may" or at times "may not" be a reputable Company to do business with! Recently retired from the Marine Corps of 20+ yrs and due to father and uncle being in the trucking indusrty for just over 50 yrs, thought I may as well give it a try! Not to mention I love driving and the freedom it brings. Looking forward to being an asset to the company and getting to know all of you. Just reading thru the Millis blogs it really seems like there is a alot of close camaraderie within the truckers here. Stay safe and looking forward to getting to know you all! GaNewbie good luck to you in your training!
