Brakesaver is a thing like European hydrolic retarder. Really good thing in mountans. CAT retarder is similar to Voith. The problem of all retarders is that they generate heat, and they are cooled with coolant and to avoid retarder and engine overheating different software is used. In Europe retarder is usually controlled with its ECM, with "propreate" coolant and fuel temperature sensors, it comunicates to Engne ECU and VECU by CAN for engine braking optimisation (exaust flap, JB).
I do not really understand why retarders are so popular in EU and rare in US? Thing is really good.
There are exotic things, like Telma Electric retarder... air cooled..

Exuse me, I'm not sure, but my friend tells me that BrakeSaver is US version of SAF retarder...
-
So the heavy haul file performes better than a brake saver file in the acerts?
-
Also good for flossing your teeth, Great file.
-
Could be some Peter files floating around to!!!
-
I know the HH is way stronger then the stock 550 flash, I too am curious which is stronger?
-
I went to a nxs the other day on the road side that had a tps fault. Cat had uprated it to the h/h file and set the fls fts to 0/0 driver said it didn't go a lot better than it did standard 550. I checked the trip info and fuel consumption was really bad , how can cat get it so wrong and charge what they do to make a truck worse.
-
There maybe more to why the mpg was so bad, the standard tuneup checks, cac, fuel psi, how old air and fuel filters are, do a manual 5 cylinder cut out at 1000rpm and see if each injector can hold 1000rpm, turbo's condition, exhaust manifold leaks, and change them fts,fls numbers, those are horrible! After all them checks road test and see how much boost it builds, I have over a 25 c15 mxs, Bxs, and nxs cats on the road and I haven't been disappointed with the fuel economy or power of the heavy haul flash cat offers. Some dyno testing maybe in order to test the Brakesaver file unless Mr. Haney would like to share?

Yup it was a company owned truck. I did offer to make it better for them but ain't heard back. As for the Dyno testing there would be a lot of people on this forum interested in the power diff between b/s and h/h files. Maybe mr H can enlighten us as you say

The best brake saver file I had was to put it in neutral. Worked excellent out west in the hills.
