Funny story about an isuzu cab over for ya. I used to work for a sign company that had there trucks in such disrepair it was horrible . The truck i started off there was an isuzu cab over with an electronic ladder bucket and flat bed. we called it the p**** magnet. It was the biggest piece of ##### i have ever driven the only thing i liked about it was it was the only truck in the fleet with a working A/C. I was doing a job in getteysburg PA and was heading home... This thing had rubber straps along with a broken clip to hold the cabover down... well the straps were rotted and i was coming up to a traffic light that went straight to red, so i slammed on the brakes and next thing you know the whole #### cab starts to lift off and just about look at the ground, I came to a skreetching stop and BANG the cab landed back on the frame... a guy in a toyota tundra was next to me laughing his a>> off and i looked over at my helper "well if this truck wasent a piece of ##### before it is now" I hated that truck.
As for a cabby I like them.. i always jump on the CB and complement a cabover driver... not to often you see them on the road anymore and all the ones you see are very well taken care of. I'd drive one.
Cabover - would you do it?

I like them but wouldnt want to drive one everday. If i had to own a cabover it would be for overall length for like a hay truck but other than that im good. Plus fuel mileage would not be so hot as the truck i have already.

i could care less as long as it gets the job done
and i know where there is a cab over engine is for sale and the first chance i get i am buying itLast edited: Jun 26, 2011

I almost bought a cabover Peterbilt about 12 years ago that had a 110" sleeper. I wanted it just for that queen size bed. As it turned out it was probably a good thing. The guy who did buy it had to do an in-frame about 2 weeks later. I believe that it had a 425 CAT.
Some of those old cabovers would really haul. -

Sitting in a Pacer felt like sitting in a Piper Cherokee.

Pride goeth before the fall. I've driven cabovers before, but they were flat floor trucks with modern suspensions. If I had to jump into one again... given a choice between a cabover and unemployment, I'd take the cabover. I'm sure I'd be ######## up a storm about it, but I'd do what I had to.
Do it by choice? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! -
When I was younger, these trucks are what sparked my passion in driving. Well all the trucks did, but these were something I especially always have liked the look of. If / when I have my CDL in hand, with a company, and they offered me a cabover, I would say yes. I might regret it, but the experience outweighs it.

Everyone pretty much made cabovers at one time. The main reason was California and their length laws. When they came out with 45' trailers they would be too long if they had a conventional. Back then, there were probably a lot more cabovers than conventional. Some of the conventional had hoods that would go on forever. Anyone remember the old Autocars?
BigJohn54 Thanks this.
