Welcome!
Mr V made his transition to trucking at the ripe young age of 50! I told him it takes a brave man to switch directions and follow a new path.
You'll do great...stay positive and always looking forward.
PS I will be joining him soon, not as a rider but as a driver!
Reassure me ?

hey, whats age anyway ?? I have been told I look like I am 40..I know at times I feel like I am 60 but I have also been told I act like I am 12...soooo
You are as young as you look, feel or dont act at any given time !!
I think -
I am the Grandson and Son of WWI and WWII vets Both wonded in action and my Dad a POW..My uncle won a bronze star in NAM and has battled the bottle homeside..I come from very historically interesting bloodlines and am a common a man as my name denotes..Daniel Smith. I have done NOTHING of note in my life but try and be a good husband and father..both important
I grew up poor and have had nothing but good, hardworking, and honest family as my example. I watched Dad work like a dog..my work ethic will have to sprint to walk alongside his..but I KNOW what is the right way..and that sticks with you. Show respect, work hard, do your best and try to help..
This country needs a whole generation of folks like our parents were..and it was up to us to set an example..I hope we haven't failed. I am not giving up
I hope to do my family right by doing my employer right and can only hope they recognize my efforts -
So from those of you who would know. It makes sense to do my training and start out as a company driver ? I would avoid the extra stress of a lease payment and keeping track of all the financial stuff associated with that. I can concentrate on my skills and my ability to deliver goods on time, safely. If things work out as I hope, I can eventually look at leasing, but after I have established myself as a dependable carrier within the network ?
I have much to learn, I assume that you want to have a dependable track record. Working for the company if you didnt, it could get you canned, working as a lease operator, it would get you no work..??
I have heard mention about routes being assigned and that you follow the FM's route..It would do you good as a beginner to stay strict within those bounderies as to cover yourself ? I am sure these questions seem stupid but I am starting out brand new..so I am sure that as I see more I will have even more and maybe even dumber questions -
Hang in there.....I've read tons of stuff on here and most it is very helpful. I wish we had found this prior to Mr V taking to the road. Sure would have helped the learning curve.

Let me be the one to tell you that getting a cdl is one of the best things that you can ever have!!! It's changed my life drastically! From having no bosses on your back to it just being you and the road oh and not to mention the money potential. It's gonna take a little adjusting as far as being on the road and missing your family but there are good paying local jobs that pay very good hourly wages, old dominion, fed ex freight, estees. I wish you all the luck my fellow trucker if you need any info shoot me a pm.

FMFS: Tell your wife to log in here, too. Sounds like she's active online already and this is a great support forum for family as well as drivers. I was on here before I started driving and, even though I didn't post much, I read a lot. She's welcome to message me, too, if she ever needs to vent.
As for drivers helping, I've found that what goes around comes around. If you help, you'll get help. Not every time, no, but it's still better than some of the general public.
Good luck to you!For My Familys Sake and shriner75 Thank this.
