First hiccup was a terrible set up for a right turn. Should have used the left lane more for the set up because the turn was into a divided road with a curb.:biggrin_2552:It was ugly, front steers did catch the curb but got the trailer around. Lets put it this way , I will not forget that type of turn again. Have to use the noggin coming into some of these turning situations. It was embarrasing:biggrin_25524: but thankful early in the morning with light traffic. We'll forget about the other altercation, its already in the past and has really no bearing on improving ones driving:biggrin_25512:.

As for a new thread, yeah I'll probably start one. Writing these threads is very cathartic for me so whats one more thread in the overall scheme of things:biggrin_25525:.

Last week finally!!! Did a nice run down I4 to 417 then 50 and swapped in Groveland. Only need 50 more miles tomorrow for my 1000 miles.

We finished early today so I killed a little time at the Mega Mall since check in isn't till 3pm. Now I know why I don't do malls.:biggrin_25525:
Tomorrow were going to hit the Freds Market tomorrow for a late breakfast then finish our run and that will be a wrap:biggrin_2553:. Thursday we will wash all the trucks and get our diplomas.

And to end this on a good note, Keturah called earlier and said everything looked great and to have my butt in Joplin on the the 11th for orientation!!!!!!!!!.......... :biggrin_25515: and for a bonus............. my classmate Rick has been approved and were trying to get Mike another classmate in there too.:biggrin_25519: Well thats it for now gotta go check out rental car rates, peace!

Well the final drive went smooth this morning . Took the Pete down to Freds in Plant City for the $5 buffet:biggrin_25519:, swapped with my partner. Took the truck back to the barn and called it a day.

Tomorrow we'll wash the trucks and get our diplomas and then the three of us will be heading to Joplin, Mo. for Conway "bootcamp on the 11th of July. Willie our #4 student will try his luck at a local job :biggrin_25523: we still wish him luck and hopefully he gets to drive an automatic.

It has been an interesting two months. I feel the school has lived up to their end of the bargain...... allowing me the oppurtunity to get a CDL license, have enough skill and knowledge to handle a tractor trailer in a a variety of city and highway settings, and giving me enough time were I feel I can meet the requirements to fill an entry level job with a major carrier. The OTR portion of the course I believe is the icing on the cake and especially for $2100.00 this course is a bargain.

Kudos to my instructors Tom and Derren:yes2557:. Firm but fair and loaded with good advice made the experience a memorable one. For those who are thinking about this school, if it fits your time frame go for it! Read this thread and just remember the front office associated with the school is just about as disfunctional as you can get for a typical state run entity:biggrin_2553:, but put up with the admissions process get your class date and you wont deal with the admin part again.

Its been fun but all things must come to an end, so Gods speed and see you out on the road!

Just wanted to give an update and to show the fruits of my labors. As for the training I received it was just want Con-way seemed to want.:yes2557: Had my pre-hire before school was up and went to Bootcamp on the 11th. My skils gained at the school enabled me to pass the bootcamp requirements with no problem.

The extra 160hrs and 1000 miles paid off because some of the other students there could barely drive or back (don't worry OB I don't mean you):biggrin_25525: so I'm very pleased with that investment and would highly reccomend a 320 hr course over some of those 3wk CDL mills.

Right now just waiting on a finisher to get on the road and get this adventure in gear.

Sounds like you're very happy with your decision to attend Mid Florida Tech, VMAGGS. I'm contemplating a radical career change and I've looked into Roadmaster and TDI in Sanford. After reading your posts I'm very interested in MFT also. I'm not sure the 8 week timeframe will work for me 'cause that's a long time to be out of work.

The part I'm having trouble with is that old adage "if it seems to good to be true ....." and you know the rest. How on earth do they provide twice the amount of training (320 hrs versus 160) for only $2140 ? That's less than 1/2 price compared to their competition. Roadmaster and TDI are quoting $5K if I pay cash out of pocket, and $6,495/$6,000 if I take out a loan.

It sounds like you had a great experience there and you were able to get hired quickly. I'm just wondering if there's a catch.

One thing to keep in mind is that Roadmaster is a private company and their main purpose is to make money. They are only going to teach you what you need to know to pass your tests to get your cdl. There's a whole lot more to trucking then that. And you will get a lot more time actually out on the road with Mid Florida Tech. I went to Ptec in St Petersburg but our curriculum was very similar, 9 weeks 320 hours.

Good point Strawberry! Just want to say Welcome to the forum! Also there is a little date at the top left corner of the post. Some of these posts you guys are responding to are old. You are more than welcome to do so you just may not get a response from the o.p.

What other companies have you heard from that won't mind the ticket? I have a B/S recent ticket for exactly 15 over (how convienient),from local ALtamont Spring's Cop. All other are 3 years old. I'm curious on whom I can plan on checking out that'll allow tick's and for what?

Could you elaborate on just what is meant by "so long as you ran them", "DIDN'T BE A PUSHOVER" & maybe "what some of the B/S that goes along with the job" actually mean's....? That could be a wide array of thing's...... Any examples could help....

Also, I was wondering if someone could tell me at what point does a company call the date of the ticket.....? On the actual date of the speeding ticket, OR on the conviction date of it? (the only way one ever get's out of a ticket that was right OR wrong is if the officer doesn't show up, so it's on your record either way, even if it was a B/S ticket in any way.

Within the last 3 year's.....I'm all clean except for one recent 15 exactly over (how convienient), 3-pt ticket lityerally about a week ago, which I took the class for so the point's didn't go on my license/insurance.

I've been looking at a few FLorida Based CO's since I'm Orlando based. Guess It'll have to be a company that'll except a fresh 3-pt ticket within the last 3 year's(even though it was a B/S ticket.......I don't drive a rocket powered Cavaleir that can get off the line like that!!!)

What FL based companies could I be good with?
