The 2290 is a federal hwy tax, should be easy enough to find a phone no. Call OOIDA.

That is not true anymore. The previous owner could have paid the whole $550, but once the truck is sold the new owner is responsible for the months he has it, pro rated.

Example; The first owner pays the whole $550, then sells the truck 6 months in. The new owner pays the IRS $225, and the previous owner is due $225 provided he knows to go to the IRS and file for a refund.

Luckily we are at the begining of a new cycle on this friday july 1st, making the whole 2290 less complicated for the OP

Yeah, but if the previous owner DIDN'T pay it current, the new owner will have to.

I think you're missing the point.

Here is the point - Regardless if the previous owner paid all, part, or none of the 2290, the new owner owes his pro rated portion.

You can go buy a used truck in April or a brand new truck in April and in either case you will the IRS the same amount of money.

I think the fees the OP is talking about is for IRP or other state related fees. 2290 not being paid will not come back on the new owner. 2290 for my truck was not paid-up for last year when I bought it and I just paid for my portion. Was one of the items I checked on figuring the IRS would get their blood regardless.

Am I reaching anyone out there???:........smirk?....grin!

When buying a used truck, you will pay your pro rated portion.

Weather the previous owner paid his 2290 or didnt, matters none as far as the new owner is concerned.

Just trying to help, since some here think they are paying "more" If the previous didnt pay it.
