1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Is there a legal way I can get an address in a bigger city to help boost the likeliness of me getting a good OTR job. Where I live now is the first reason company's pass me up. Where I live you need to out of your way by several hundred miles to get a STAA truck to my house. They fear they won't be able to get me home on time. I don't need to ever be here again it is just where I'm at now but they don't believe that.

For this reason and the lack of OTR carriers near me I'm finding it near impossible to find work. As soon as they see where I live they file my app in the little round file cabinet on the floor.

I can't actually move as I have a job now. I couldn't afford to rent an apartment just to get an address. And in the long run I have no plans on renting one. I have no need for a 'home'; I prefer the nomadic lifestyle. I just need an address that will make a perspective employer happy.

Well, if you do fake the address, get hired, then park the truck where you do actually live, something happens to the truck, they'll find out you lied, they will fire you, THEN you'll have to explain that trying to get the next job......

    Good point.

Padding a job application/resume in the information age is difficult.

More than likely they'll do some level of background check that includes your address history. Sure - you can go with the "I just moved recently", but the folks that do the hiring have seen and heard most of it - if not all of it.

Stuff like this will eventually come back to haunt you.

This can be done by establishing residence somewhere more convenient, then getting a physical address through a mail forwarding service (NOT a PO Box). I know drivers who have a Nevada CDL and a physical address in Reno but live in Northern Cali, Mainly to avoid state income taxes.

I actually gave 1/2 a thought to doing this. I'm about 4 miles north of I69 in Michigan and several companies have I69 as their cut off. I figued if I used my sister's address (Same city, just south of 69) it would open up a bit more companies I could look at.

Problem with that though is there is a reasion they have hiring areas, and it's usally to do more with where their shipping lanes are, and knowing home time is next to impossible outside of the lanes. With that in mind I will not be trying to fudge my address. Heck, even ones that sat all of Flint is fine, but don't go further north I'm putting on a back burner.

I think you all are missing my point. I"M NOT TIED TO THIS AREA. MY ADDRESS NOW IS JUST A MAIL DROP where my mail is placed in a box by a friend and I get it when I get it. On my DL it lists a PO Box for my address. I would relocate anywhere. I don't care about getting 'home time' in a particular location.

Please think outside the box. I'm not like most people and your desired situation is not mine. I have no family and I can fit all of what I own in the back of my pickup. I don't base my self worth in where I lay my head at night and couldn't care less about having a stick and mortar home and having a bunch of junk filling my outbuildings. I prefer being able to pick up and go but I can't afford that right now. Thus the reason I'm trying to get a more preferred address.

If I can make it look like I'm moving or just moved to a more populated area then I would have a better chance at getting hired. Its hard enough having been out of a truck for awhile I don't need an extra strike against me because of where I'm currently making a living. I'm not trying to avoid taxes or lie to any one that's why in my first post on the first line you will see I said I wanted a LEGAL way to do it

This is the big down fall to forums that log a post count. It encourages people to post just to see that little number go higher without actually reading the OP and considering what it says.

BTW: 123456, name the time and place and I'll out work you at anything you want.

123456 is trying to tell you that faking your addy in your situation is really no big deal. Use a mail forwarding service or whatever else works to get the job, get rolling, get some cash in the bank, and relocate to wherever you want later on. There's nothing illegal about it if you're not trying to duck the IRS.

    so, what would be legal?

I had one of those infamous aggressive recruiters / salesman in a truck stop drill me about coming up with an address in one of their hiring zones. I mentioned I do know someone and can possibly use it if I asked but pointed out it dishonest to me, it's not my residence. He told me it's not dishonest or illegal just so long as I park the rig in their terminal/yard then drive home on home time.. I turned him down. besides it would have been an 8 drive one way..

Dishonest, yes, illegal, not at all. In fact, if you read through the tax code, your place of residence is defined by where you may have lived in the past, whether you have family there or grew up there, and whether you intend to return there. I lived in NY for over a year but never had to change my state of residence only because I intended to return to that state eventually. There is no time limit on it.

Expanding on that, if you intend to live somewhere else and make that place a home, without intent to return, then legally you already live wherever you intend to go. Laws are fun.
