Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
A guy I went to school at Stevens with called me last week complaining that he wasnt making any money. So I offered to try and help him figure out what was wrong.
He let me look at his settlements and I also talked to the Fuel Dept for him. So I called him and told him that he was getting plenty of miles but his fuel cost was way to high. It was running him 25 cents per mile. Mine runs me 12 cents per mile. I explained that the extra fuel was costing him over 300.00 a week, and that was were his profit was going. I told him that the Fuel Dept looked at his sensor tracks and he was bumping against the governor way to much. he needed to slow down. try to keep it at 60 or a little bellow and shift between 1100 and 1300 rpms.
So he tells me that was the same thing his business manager told him. and that he was tired of people passing him all the time. He also was upset that the truck is "crippled" that as soon as it hit the heart of the power in the engine, the governor cuts it down. He said he had talked to drivers at the truck stop and they were flabbergasted and how slow he had to run and that he could make lots more money at their company.
LOL, so I told him to do what he needed to do. So he said hes going home for hometime and then plans to quit Stevens and go somewhere else.
I will let you all draw your own conclusions from that conversationLast edited: Jun 30, 2011

If one climbs hills with a gentle touch on the throttle, and does not worry about being first to the top of the hill, it really does not burn that much more fuel. Let the engine and torque do the work.Rattlebunny Thanks this. -
Setting just north of Richmond VA, for my 0100 appointment... and the place has no staging, so here I am 6 miles away... Was sent a preplan that picked up on Friday, and delivered Sunday, then that got changed to pickup on Saturday, and deliver on Tuesday, and then cancelled...900 miles over 4 days, I won't miss it. so I don't know where I am going next, yet.

Thanks Corporal Clegg!!!
Funny how a mans pride always seems to get in the way. I am referring to the driver that decided making it to the top of the hill, and not getting passed was not only worth profit loss but even a job. Rational thought would tell a guy to slow down, shift in the sweet spots and smile watching the money burners fly by. I am not interested in leasing for the first year I am out. I really want to get a good handle on the fundamentals of this trade before jumping in head first.
In the last post I was referring to whether or not taking on a student driver is worth it. Have you been offered the job, or been asked to do it?
How much extra money could you make as a trainer? -
Im not at the point were I can be a trainer yet. TYou have to be solo for at least a year before you can apply to do that.

Sitting in Cheyenne today. Taking odds on this load becoming my undoing...
Have 17 hours left on my 70. Due in Oakland thurs. Won't get hours back until tuesday. Can make it, but have to be in Dallas saturday and with a thurs del in Cali, I can bet that won't happen.
Wanna bet they'll finally think to repower me when I'm sitting in Jackpot, NV tomorrow? (great place to repower!)
c'est la guerre, ### a la guerre! -
Some days, I wonder what goes through their heads in Dallas.. I got the pre plan that was cancelled. And Dispatch insisted that it was a live load... Now shouldn't dispatch know we drop trailers there... I called purdue to inquire about my load, and they told me it was loaded on a Stevens trailer ready to go.. So I when my break was up, I headed on down and picked it up. Now I will be setting in Morris IL on Sunday, for my Tuesday delivery...
Soaring with the eagles, is so difficult when one is dispatched by buzzards and turkeys!
