Go to Omeda.org, fast facts, scroll down to the last full paragraph, then tell me what it says. I'll sum it up, it says "if the previous owner did not keep the 2290 current and sold the truck, the new owner will have to pay the previous owners unpaid share." Dude, I'm not trying to be a wisea--, but it's also on the IRS website also. You are correct in saying if you buy your truck after July 1, you will pay it prorated.

After reading your post I looked into it, and I think you're right after all.
I was going off of the way I handled it several years ago. Maybe the IRS changed it since then.
As coincedence would have it, I am going to the IRS office tomorrow to pay my 2290 and unbelievably they dont take cash. -
Im not sure even the IRS knows how the 2290 works.Just straightened out a mess on last years taxes without any proof or verification of previous owners payment and only paid prorated tax.
No pocket knives in the IRS office,by the way. -
I got it Win Mag. Since I understand the mechanics of taxation - everything will be taxed once and if we can, we will double tax it!
If we collect 12 months from A, we will will still collect B's pro-rated 4 months. We love getting 16 months of revenue out of a 12 month period. Signed IRS.
