What up fellow Central drivers! Its the Dirty Buzzard live from a Loves truckstop in Orangeburg, SC. I been reading these posts for the last hr or so. They have been very helpful and insightful. I been with with CRS since January 2011. Was an OTR company driver starting out and now I'm on the Kraft dedicated fleet. Been doin that 4 about a month now. I really like it out here. Aside from missing my kids ( 2 & 4 yrs old) and girlfriend, I love getting paid to drive everywhere. This has been a big change from what I was use to. (10 yrs behind a desk at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Columbus, GA.)The only complaint I have is when I have to call OS&D. (Oh ##### Debbie!) She can be a complete #######. Will try to make whatever's wrong with the load the driver's fault. At least that was my case. Anyway, Central has been good to me. I really appreciate that idling info. I was wondering how they expect u not to over-idle during the summer in the South. I woke up the other night sweating like a soccer player, trying not to over-idle. Anyways, just sharing my thoughts. So, when you see that white (dirty beige 99941) Volvo, don't be alarmed if the driver is acting like he's on his 10th can of Red Bull, bouncing like he's at a concert. I'm just enjoying my Ipod and life on the road.

 

Ok. FSC lesson. You get it on loaded only. You get it even if you don't buy fuel on that load. You get it if you are dh. The fuel attaches its self to the load you are hauling or going to get. Example, if you pu on Monday and fuel, but del on Thursday, it won't make any difference how much you have at midnight Wednesday. Central says only enough fuel for each ld. But if you can afford a pay swing, fill it in the cheapest state. Good states to fill are Oklahoma, Missouri, south Carolina, Indiana, Tennessee, Wyoming, Oregon. Pretty close to order of the cheapest first. Best thing is call or qc fuel dept. Ask cheapest price on your route. If you know where you will be for the next full tank of fuel and its the nest price then fill. Or get just enough to get to the cheapest price. The reason crs says only enough for the ld is to make 3000 miles the same each time. If you fill at the cheapest every time, you will save more money in the big picture. Your checks will swing more like that but you will save more in the end. Eric in atbs will not tell you to fill. He sells crs coolaid. They tell you you over fueled. I ask how can I over fuel if I am gonna use it on the next ld? I have been lease for almost 18 months so if you have questions plz ask.

 

There will be times when you have lots of deadhead they will pay fsc on empty miles. Eric not only drinks crs kool-aid, he drinks atbs kool-aid, so he is really full of it.

 

Looks like the Mrs may get a short delay (me too). they are still looking for a load home to CA for me from the Ogden area. the worst part is that I am working off recap hours and my first day away from Ogden will be a 4.5 hr day. After that I start getting 9's and 10's. My son is coming up from San Diego so that makes it even more problematic... It will be a good week for miles, but I will prolly miss my son and his wife on the 4th. I keep hoping... Good luck with your change to the truckers lifestyle. Some love it some hate it. Personally I really enjoy it.

 

O/O is good, pay is better. DO NOT go O/O without at least 8-10 months of experience FIRST. You will be learning a lot during that time and you do not need the added stress of trying to figure fueling, trying to make a profit. Go through at least one winter driving season before you decide. Slippery stuff can change a drivers outlook on if they want to continue behind the wheel.
