Alright, first lemme explain what I mean by decent... I was going to go to G&P trucking; they'd let anyone ride with me as long as I cleared it with dispatch (I feel that this is a must for me in a company) and home 2/4 weekends...

That being said I was pre-hired by them and then had all my drug test and such done and gave me location and such for orientation (paid orientation)... Long story shot (and yes, this is the short version) on the day I was going down to SC I got stuck in a traffic jam, sitting there minding my own business look in my rear view and see a GMC van closing in very fast on my 85 Fiero, did everything I could in the time frame to avoid getting rammed but he hit me going 80 MPH... I spend that night and the next day in the hospital (yes, I informed the company why I missed orientation and never checked into the hotel).

The lady in recruiting said to keep in touch and their still interested in me; and I did, but a few weeks later she stopped returning my calls. I finally got fed up and emailed the man over her head, only to get an email back stating that the offer for my orientation and training had been retracted... Its a gray area since I was driving to orientation and not yet paid on if I was actually considered an employee or not, which is something for the lawyer to worry about. (however, just letting you know how this company plays new drivers)

Now that the doctors have cleared me for work (2 months after I got my CDL) and insurance finally gave me money for a car I find myself looking for a company somewhat like that, close to Wilkes NC or within 200-300 miles - home times not that important to me, but insurance and a good rider policy is what makes me happy

Welcome to TTR Forum. You've got to hustle or you will have trouble getting hired since so much time has passed since you got your CDL.

You need to research the companies yourself and decide what is realistic, who fits you and what you want from a company. Maybe some others will weigh in with options.

What happened with G & P wasn't their fault. I wouldn't tell that story unless I could make it a little more positive. Trucking companies are about moving freight to make a profit. You, your home time, personal situation and everything else are second. No offense, I would have withdrawn my offer too. Do you know how many lame stories they hear? Yours may be valid, they have no way of knowing.

If you don't make orientation in trucking, you won't be trusted to make a delivery appointment with their load. Good luck!

I hear you man , but welcome to trucking. You are not employed untill you are really done with your trainer and test out. All these pre-hires mean nothing. Look at how many are at these oreientations the company only wants move freight thats itand turn a profit, so do it faster a cheaper than your competitor. There is your formula of how they feel about you not making oreientaton, they do not care and all recruitors are full of crap.
