Well I have alot of open doors right now, I guess freight really picks up during the spring/summer season. I called the dude up that was setting me up with the job but I guess he must be busy he hasn't returned my phone call so I will try Monday I also have 2 other appointments this coming week one with a union job paid by the hour but only 4 working days, and another one pushing LtL working nights paid by the hour.
I also think carry transit wants to put me on board to push a tanker for them. Let see who pays the best who has the best beanies, and most importantly who treat their driver with respect.

If they actually guarantee you a $1000 - $1200 plus per week, I stand corrected on my lollipop statement but I do talk to many of these ground drivers and they all wish they worked as an employee for Fed Ex freight. As far as I know Fed ex ground is 100% owner operator. Don't base your income on what people drive. When I was an owner op, my income level showed $113,000 and the auto dealers tried to push those Mercedes on me. My actual income was a lot less but it looked good on paper. If you have a shot at working ltl for Fed Ex freight you will make over $1,000 in orientation let alone the big money these guys get riding up and down the highway. I believe they are over .57 cents a mile now and they get paid for all other worked performed on top of the milage. The benefits are worth an additional .15 - .20 cents a mile also. If an owner op thinks he can pay you anywhere close to that, I'd bet he's one of those Mercedes drivers with an 8 year payment book.

I may have the oppurtunity to work for fedex custom critical with my buddy. He has 6 more weeks of cdl school.We are going to teamdrive. We have never worked for a owner operater before. We have 23 questions to ask the owner. I have all these questions written down .

I am a recent graduate and I just got hired on for FedEx Ground Linehaul yesterday.. they have been hiring students graduates however as of Sept 12, 2011 they will no longer hire student graduates. I am in Utah and I hired through Barry Trucking and this is what I was told. So Barry Trucking is trying to hire as many Students as they can before that resource runs out. -
Ok, I am LOL'n quiet a bit here as I read these
1) FedEx GROUND is all 100% o/o based
2) FedEx Ground DOES NOT hire student drivers. They stopped this practice as of 2010 due to the hire number of rollovers and accidents from students
3) Each contractor is different. One may pay you 1099, others may pay W-2, offer insurance, retirement etc
4) "assigned runs" are not required, however they do have dedicated runs, that are bid upon based upon the point system that another member was talking about all others are considered "wheel runs" which is basically, we spin a wheel, which ever contractors name it lands on, gets the pick of the best run of the week, and goes down the list from there
5) Yes, you do have to apply at FedEx HR for a linehaul position, even if working for a contractor. This is so the powers to be, can do your driving history check, background, accidents etc.
6) FedEx has become more strict on who the hire now. Minimum: - Must have a Class A with (1) year experience OR (6) months experience with approved school with doubles/triples endorsement, complete 25,000 miles as driver in control before being able to operate solo

I here that thay train drivers with a trainer with a CDL for 92 hours.
