Like the title says, I am in CDL school, and I have a pre-hire from Schneider. As soon as I get my license they will send me off to orientation. Can some Schneider drivers answer some questions for me??
The recruiter told me I would have 1 week of orientation, in Indianapolis, where I would take my drug test and physical. After that week I go otr with a trainer for 7-10 days. That seems like a short time to me, but she verified that it would be 7-10 days then I get my own truck.
The position I applied for as otr 6/3. I asked for more information on this position from the recruiter, and she said it was a new position, and they were still working out the kinks in it, but 6 out and 3 home is what they are aiming for. Does anyone here run that? She could not tell me if that was slip seat or not, I do NOT want a slip seat position.
Also any other information you can give me would be great. This company is at the top of my list to go work for, so I am really trying to get all the information I can. From everything I read here, this is a great company to drive for.

I can Guarantee that it will be a lot longer then 7-10 days. The minimum you will spend with a trainer is 3 weeks and that is if everything go's right because they limit your hours of driving. You can not drive between 12am and 6 am AKA the (Witching Hours). They have a special promotion through my school because its the best CDL training school in the country and they said they knocked off a bunch of hours for us with a trainer and he said 2 weeks for us will be the minimum.
Bottom Line don"t always go by what they say they will say one thing and you will have to do another there there to get you in and make there money that is all if they tell you different they are telling you a lie. -

I was at Indy for orientation 6/18-24, got on with my trainer ("Training Engineer"
) last Sunday. If Schneider's other TE's are as good as mine, you'll do great! They'll move you along as fast as you can go, but will not let you out on your own until you are ready. Guy before me needed one week; I'm counting on two.
I'm on a dedicated account (not a dedicated route). They promised me 2200-2500 miles per week and home every weekend. From talking to the TE and other drivers, that's exactly what I'll get. First week was 2300 miles, home Friday afternoon.
I got 6 prehire letters; Schneider was fastest on the response, so here I go. Good company, so far. Good luck.jakecat22 and bonbonsron Thank this. -
If you don't mind me asking, is it the 6/3 or are you out longer?
If I get to orientation and decide I don't want the 6/3 position and maybe want to go otr or regional is that possible? Or am I stuck?
Sorry if these questions are dumb, I am new to trucking and trying to get all the info I can. -
You can't Change for 6 months. The 6/3 is a slip seat. You can change before you go to orientation. Training with your TE is 7-10 days. If you need more time then it will be longer. I run the regional out of West Memphis I'm out 6-7 days home 36-48 hrs every week. You can get 2500 mi a week if you run your hours. If you wanna just run in the daylight you won't get the miles. A lot of guys think that this job, trucking, is a 9 to 5. Its not. Its a 14 hrs on 10 hrs off. Good luck. Schneider is a great company.

I think I may call my recruiter and see if I can get a different position, I think for at least the first 6 months I want to do complete OTR in my own truck to get as much experience as I can, and I don't think I will get that in a regional slip seat position. I will willing to run any hours(as long as I have the hours
) and I fully understand it is not a 9 to 5 job.

With that attitude you will do Great!!
Good Luck> let us know how it goesbonbonsron Thanks this. -
I don't know if they call my schedule 6/2 or what. I expect to be out 5-7 days at a time then home for a couple days. It won't be slip seating, I'll have my own truck that I could take home, but since I don't have a place to park it at home I'll leave it at the OC, which is only 20 miles away.
Like Jason said, if you want the miles, ya gotta drive: turning wheels = $. I'm going in with an attitude of busting my #####, getting my experience & "paying my dues."bonbonsron Thanks this. -
I was looking into Schneider myself. I've read a lot of good things about the company here and decided to research into them. I had one guy warn me about how they're notorious for screwing up DAC reports. That kinda worried me, but very few times have I left an employer without giving proper notice, and that was when I was younger and had a hotter temper. I was just wondering if anyone else heard this as well?
