i m gonna post this here I hope it's the correct place.I have a concern about the medications that I take.I'm prescribed a few different meds for depression and am worried how they may affect the DOT drug screen test, and getting hired by a decent company.
    The medications I take are:Zoloft,Trazadone,Abilify,Busbar
They are all for depression and anxiety.

My questions are: will they show up on the DOT screen as bad?
And if not do I really need to reveal the fact that I'm taking them to A perspective employer, before being hired?

I don't want to be dishonest I just do not feel its any of there business. There has got to be a lot of drivers on anti-depressants that can chime in here & I hope you will.

There legal prescribed medications correct... so your good. They'll tell you they "search for everything so you better tell them" but SSI inhibitors wont show any thing negative. The only concern I'd have is do you take all them at the same time cause I'd think you be pretty knocked out.

Depending on what the company allows...my dad takes trazadone it will not show up in a drug screen but the company would not qualify him until the doctor took him off...good luck and may not hurt to ask the company of you choice..

I would tell them everything you are on. Be totally up-front. Also make sure you have a prescription for what you are taking....otherwise, it may turn-out badly. I just had my DOT physical this past Wednesday for entry to CDL school. I told the doctor everything I take. I asked if this would hinder me from getting hired by the company after school. The doctor told me she knows drivers who take what I take. They have jobs and take medication. It will be a different DOT doctor that gives me the employment physical and I'm praying their doctor is of the same belief. Also, your background check and driving record speaks multitudes to these companies. The cleaner the better. Just make sure to put-it-all-out-there, cuz if you lie and they find out you're outta there.

    Much luck to you!!

They won't show as an illegal drug because you will disclose your use and prescription at the time of testing. If you don't the test will detect them and you will be asked for information before you get a failed result on your record.

All this said, you should research disqualifying medications with regard to a DOT Physical. In aviation they are disqualifying period. I don't know in trucking. I can personally see it as a limiting factor in trucking. Just like an airplane, who wants a person with a history of depression in control of an 80,000-pound projectile? We live in a world of magnified liability, especially in the trucking industry.

Don't get me wrong I am not criticizing you. This is a subject that I think is handled incorrectly in aviation, as well as society. Most pilots either avoid treatment or self-medicate to maintain their flight status. You have to ask yourself wouldn't it be better if the rules allowed treatment?

What you need to do is research not ask questions. Asking questions will yield opinions, which are of little use on a subject as complex as this. If you research rules and regulations you will gather facts. Armed with facts you can plan an approach that will work.

IMHO. You should keep in mind, regardless of the laws, if you are in an accident this will most likely have negative consequences on you and your life when the attorneys are done. If you can do it and choose to, keeping it from the company will have negative consequences for both you and them in an accident scenario. As a professional driver we are held to higher standards. I'm not trying to discourage you, you just need to gather facts, understand risks and make an informed decision that is right for you.

    Thanks for the input guys!
I do see that full disclosure is the only real option,I just do not want to get discriminated against for taking them. But I guess there is no other option.

IMHO, research first then ask questions. With the world at our fingertips I have no problem researching without asking any questions. That generates a question list.

If I don't research first, how do I know who to believe? Are you willing to trust important, complex and critical issues to simply what another driver tells you? How does he know if I'm credible?

All this being said, I relish the chance to share and debate on the TTR Forum. I'm not against questions, much of what I've learned was from questions. I always research first to acquire a basic knowledge and ask better questions.

Sorry, I didn't mean to downplay the importance of questions. I meant to question the validity of answers that are often more opinion than fact.
