SWR meter

The Radio Shack Meter can read up to 2000w peak. They are about as accurate as any other Meter on the market between $20 and $200.

About the only problem I have found with the Radio Shack meter is they don't seem to handle Big watts very long if you leave one in-line all the time...Running over 1000w's in one regularly after a while they seem to short out after a year or two.

If your planning on running with the Big Boy's, and pushing over 2Kw's, then bite the bullet, and invest in a Bird set-up....

 

Truth be known anything under 1.7 is fine for running power upwards of 3K
Anything above 2.xx is detrimental to equipment longevity

interesting.....Mr X-Force said keep it under 1.3 absolute max when I bought my X-Force 400HD, anyway the lower the better IMO..

 

Mr X Force used to have a boss too,but that little 400 can still live a long live running 1.7

People need to understand once set(even on 1.1) they do not stay
at 1.1 or 1.3 or even 1.7 once you are mobile.

If you set your radio at 1.1 and then plugged in your juice box
do you believe your SWR is still 1.1 ?

Ask Bruce he will tell it ain't . . . .

Just because you add a amp it dosn't change SWR

 

Stick with Francis Antenna's, you won't need a SWR meter.

I have had two radio shack meters now. One failed after about of years worth of use behind my connex 4300 HP. I bought another recently and there is something wrong with that one after just a short period of time. When I leave it in line, people say I am cutting in and out and they can hardly hear me. Take it out and I am loud and clear. I thought maybe it was my jumpers so I replaced them and there was no change.

I am hoping to find a similar sized meter witht he same functions but better quality so tat I can leave it in line.
