This is very sad indeed. Two of our fellow drivers lost their lives in this accident. My prayers go out to both families.

I thanked you guys because I'm the same way about securing. I hauled everything you can dream of on a flatbed and never lost a load. My first safety man said," If you have chains on the rack and have a wreck, you pay for it." If you have all your chains on a load of pipe and you wereck, Ill pay for it." I have to laugh at drivers I see hauling pipe with straps on it and no cahins wrapped around it. Will say a prayer for the families also.

there IS NO EXCUSE for not securing your load properly...we have pulled flat bed, and oversize....i think the dot ought to crack down more on flatbeds that dont secure properly.....you can see em go by, with straps or chains blowin the the wind...DANGEROUS!!!!!! too lazy??? go pull a dry van...
bamanation Thanks this. -
hey! I drive a dry van and even *I* strap in my freight!
(furniture hauler)Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
and you should
...cuz it can shift too.
...lol but more likely to stay inside of trl...not fall off...altho shifting inside a dry van can cause a wreck too.....as i am sure you know....

Don't laugh at the drivers - some places won't let you put a chain on pipe anymore. I got my ### chewed out one time for having a belly chain around a load of casing. They made me take it off before they let me leave.
I tried to tell them that when I got to the rig with it, they were going to shake it up with a loader, dump it on pipe racks, wrap a chain around it and drag it up on the floor, twist it together with an extreme amount of torque, and then jab it two miles down in the freakin' ground, and that if a belly chain was going to hurt it, they probably didn't need the junky ####. That only resulted in a mutual agreement for me to never come back.
But, some companies require pipe to be stripped and strapped only. No pyramidding and no chains - not even a belly chain.
