There is no "federal law which allows 'safe passage' thru all states." Each state is it's own soverign government, and whether a resident of a state can legally possess and transport a firearm through a second state depends on the willingness of that second state to acknowledge the laws of the first state.
Frankly, I think most folks are a little to paranoid for their own good. Especially if they feel the need for a small personal arsenal.

First know of which you speak, which apparently you dont. The Firearms Owners Protection Act,a federal law, allows you to transport your firearm from one place to another across state lines as long as it is locked up and inaccessible. However if you are in a state that allows more generous provisions you may carry it where its accessible. Will some states still hassle you? Maybe but the fact remains you are protected under federal law.
As for being paranoid, why is it that because I may choose to carry for my protection that you call me or others like me paranoid? Ever heard the term the best offense is a strong defense? Getting into a situation and wishing you had a weapon is the wrong time to be rethinking your position. If I carry and never have to use it,fine with me but Id rather have it than wish I had it. Maybe we should ask why all you antigunners think a law is going to stop a bullet fired by a criminal??
Facts are that states with less gun control also have less crime. Spin that however you like but it still comes out with the same answer guns for defense equals less violent crime (Criminals hate gun owners because we usually dont take no crap from them).mtnMoma Thanks this. -
If you want to carry a gun. Get your own truck.
It's not your truck, it's Prime's property, if you want to keep your job, you do what they say with their property. -
Mea Culpa... got that mixed up with the 2nd Amendment ruling a couple of years ago. You're absolutely right.
True... however, that doesn't keep a jittery local cop from being a jerk. It still takes time, court appearances and a judge to fix those things.
Don't call me an "antigunner" because I'm not. That being said, if I'm a supervisor at a worksite that doesn't allow firearms on the premisis, find that you're carrying on the job... you're going to get escorted out by the police. And terminated. Haven't heard of a jobsite shooting that was prevented by someone with a concealed carry permit yet. BTW... a locked up gun in a truck with ammunition securely stored somewhere else is pretty useless IMO. Unless you happen to throw the #### thing at the guy, and score a hit.
Arizona... little to no gun control, and you can't even have a public meeting without some nutcase trying to shoot the government representatives! Yeah! Now that's safe!!
Yup.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
Nothing was said about carrying in a company truck. I was responding to ignorant remarks about it being illegal to carry in a CMV. Also IP you havent heard of any workplace shootings prevented by a CCW? You dont read/listen to the news much then because it happens now and again. Most recently at a CVS Pharmacy when a pharmacist carrying against company policy shot a armed robber and prevented what may have been a tragedy. Of course his antigun boss fired him afterwards, thats a fine thank you but I have a feeling he wont have a terrible time finding employment with a company that values folks like that. As for carrying in a lock box, thats only for states like Illinois who are still working on getting CCW. My permit is good in most of these United States and in those states I wouldnt have to keep it in a locked box. Y'all need to quit drinkin the company koolaid and realize you have rights to protect yourself. Say you never had a problem over the road? Then you are still a noob because it wont take long before someone approaches you wanting money then when you refuse they can sometimes get violent. Those folks panhandling the truckstops arent sweet and innocent, some have nasty drug habits and wont think nothin of sticking you with a knife for a few dollars. Are they all druggies? No but you'll know when you run into that one person who is because he wont leave you alone. If he's got a "pig sticker" and you got a gun guess who wins.mtnMoma Thanks this.

A dry chemical extinguisher emptied into the face of an idiot who won't go away will incapacitate them just fine. It also won't land you in jail or require an attorney to defend you from shooting someone. You haven't changed my mind that you're paranoid. And... BTW, as for being a "noob" - I'm not. I've walked streets that would chill your blood brother.
-
You in the habit of carrying a fire extiguisher around are ya? Roflmao I guess I'll know when I run into you because you'll be the one crossing the parking lot with a fire extinguisher holstered on his hip lol! I would prefer my compact handgun its much lighter. Just because a person may carry for their protection doesnt make them paranoid. I hope I never have to pull the trigger on someone, usually pulling it is all thats required 99.9% of the time. Do you run your truck on less than a quarter of a tank of fuel? Or are you "paranoid" about running out of fuel? Thats not paranoid you say its being prepared? I bet you even carry one of those paranoid winter survival kits.mtnMoma Thanks this.
-
Nope... not in the habit of carrying anything across a truckstop parking lot, except an extra-large coffee cup. You see, its like this: I'm not afraid of my own shadow.
-
Im not afraid of my shadow either. I am prepared for my own defense should the need arise, just like you with your full fuel tank and winter survival kit because you just never know.mtnMoma Thanks this.

Ok, Ok,,, cant you two just agree on something? You both are right and have the Right to feel anyway you want to on the subject of weapons. Turning to a posistion of Defense like you both are doing, is childesh and helps nothing.
If a driver wants to carry a weapon in his truck and is not breaking the law by doing so, so be it and God bless that driver. If another driver does not want to carry or is fine following the rules of the company that driver drives for,,fine, so be it...and God bless that driver as well.Danfromwindsor and CadetTrucker Thank this.
