If the DOT Has their way they are trying to get the DRs that do the DOT exams certified like the aircraft pilots. They have to go to a Doctor that is certified to do the DOT Exam they can not use their family doc unless he is certified. Also most airline pilots have to retire at age 6
Section 4116 of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) requires the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to establish a national registry of medical examiners who are qualified to perform examinations and issue medical certificates. The FMCSA National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) program would require medical examiners receive training and pass a certification test before being listed on the Registry - which will be available to commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers and motor carriers to identify medical examiners authorized to conduct the CMV driver physical examination.
If this goes through then there will be a definite shortage of drivers and a lot of us will be on the unemployment line . ( More GOV CONTROL)![]()

That's pretty young....
Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
My former doctor did a couple of annual DOT's for me. At one time he also did FAA exams for pilots. He stopped due to all the costs involved for special software, etc., If the government is successful in doing this, we can all expect the costs to go up. -
It is early I meant to type 65 did not even see error O well it is early yet and wife wants to got to Home Depot to buy some paint . so we are fixing to have a painting party , everyone is invited.

This is turning into a touchy thread!
The DOT physical is the same thing your doctor does to you for what we would call an annual physical! I remember mine doing the exact same thing when I was a kid under 17! Heck it's about the same thing they would do to us every time we went on sick call in the military except for the eye chart and that joke of a hearing test and peeing in the cup! The rest was business as usual!
But still there are a few of those alphabet groups that think truckers are the most deadly and dangerous people in the world and woah...He's over 62 or whatever the stupid mandated retirement age is now and he shouldn't be driving a killer machine! Heck listen to them about seniors driving a freaking car! They are going insane on them at times! We even get to see it on the news as the "debate" the question.
Take me for example. Cancer treatments, then brain surgery. I'm medically disabled from driving a CMV . Yeah I could get that dropped and get a job somewhere and get this,I took a DOT physical on 7/14 (this week) and PASSED it even with a vertigo problem because it was not asked about in the DOT physical papers I filled out. Heck, the doctor and I talked about everything from March 2008 up to that day. He was pretty amazed that I am in the condition I'm in and not a basket case and he asked me why the disability if I just passed the DOT?
Sure I passed it, BUT, I until I pass MY own physical I'll not get behind the wheel of a truck as I don't want something to happen and a life is stopped because I passed a turn your head and cough touchie feelie physical and had a major accident!
It's the fact that we have to abide by the morons who "think" with their arses that old means useless and dangerous and it's time to put them out to pasture who have lobbyists in DC where all the crapola starts and rolls down hill onto those who do the work and can still out drive them in their own cars!
