Does anyone have a web site for the FMCSA on allowed/denied medications such as anti-anxiety (Xanax) or Anti-Depression (Lexapro/Prozac) ?
A buddy of mine drives for one of the 'bottom' feeders and was recently prescribed Xanax to take as needed,
however he only takes it at nite time to help sleep.
He has a Doctors legit Prescription and its up-to-date.
I couldnt answer his question since all I know rules about are the really bad drugs like Oxy or Vicodin.
Thoughts?
My rule is no drugs but stuff like tylenol or Alieve when I am in the rig...

Also maybe not for all people but xanax is one long acting drug. I guarantee that even though he takes it just at night it is still affecting his
abilty to drive the next day. Even though it is a small dose xanax is one drug that takes awhile for your body to get used too.Hanadarko Thanks this. -
Also xanax is "worse" than the drugs you mentioned simply because you lose alot of
your "motoring skills", also xanax has a way of making you forget what you did the day before.
It is definitely one drug someone does not need to be taking on the road. -
The typical DOT test I know about (and just took) was the top 5.

This website has tons of useful information... Here is a link to the one for xanax

Xanax falls under the catorgory of "benzodiazepines". I'm not sure where that falls
in the 5 panel DOT test but it will show up. -
Here is a link to the five item in the DOT test.
It then further breaks it down to what drugs fall into each section.

The best bet for your friend is to anonymously call a Dr that performs D.O.T physicals and ask them what they think. I imagine it would depend on the dosage and frequency of use, but I could be wrong.
Hope that helps!! -
Benzos do not show up on standard DOT drug test.

That is totally false.
Xanax 1/2 life is only 4 hours..... it's one of the barbiturates that has the most fast metabolic rate.
Colonopin perhaps is what you may be thinking about. Its half life is considerably longer, in terms of barbiturates anyways.
