@Saienga more than likely it is your EGR cooler if you're going through that much coolant. Next time you're in the yard write it up, it takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to swap out. On my last three trucks I had the same problem and once it was swapped out it went away. You may also want to check the clamps on the coolant lines with a wrench to make sure they're tight.

I found a leak today, but I can't quite pinpoint it...there's a good splash of coolant colored damp staining on the frame rail and the leaf springs (dripping and splashing) on the right side. I see a little hose pretty damp with the stuff too, but it's right below where the EGR cooler is (or at least what I've always assumed is the EGR cooler, or maybe the regen chamber, whatever...) and it's always so blasted hot right by that area I don't want to get my arm in there and feel around for fear of singing my arm. It's also been hot enough these last few days that I'm idling to sleep (also because I'm sleeping from 1-3pm to 2-4am)...so I haven't had the chance to shut down for the night and let everything cool.

I had a KW with a Cummins eat coolant a couple of years ago, but not like this, and not with an evident leak...so after I empty out, I'm going to get loaded toward Sheldon to have a look. I pains me a little, because at 440,000 miles I know the trucks not long for trade in, but I don't want to battle the idiot light every two days until November.

I'm up to a full gallon every 48 hours now.

PS- I'm mechanically inclined enough to know how to do simple things and fiddle a little, but I know enough to know that I don't know enough to really get in up to my elbows and monkey around...and God bless it, I'm not real interested in taking on that challenge and getting myself a serious breakdown because I went all tinkerbell on the engine.

The EGR cooler is located directly behind the turbo, kinda by the exhaust manifold. It is hard to tell by a visual exam if it is kapoot, really just have to pull it off for a good look see. Are you seeing a buildup of soot around this area? Have any of you guys loaded at the brewery in Rochester, NY? Cory got me set up on this deal and have never been there.

    Rob,
Yes I have been to the brewery in Rochester, and you have to be careful going in, there is a low bridge going to St Paul street where High Falls brewery is located, plus the second exit on your left after getting on St.Paul is the one you use to check in. Expect a few hours, even though you may get lucky, the guys are union so they take breaks. Good luck.

I'll pass on the Ridgeline Hawk.

Pretty pleased with the past 4 days. Got reloaded yesterday in MN with another sub 100 mile DH, and made it here to RDC tonight with 2 min left on my 14. I shutdown in Gary last night with 3 min on my 14 too! So I made the out and sorta back in a record 4 days! If I could do that every week... Talked to Cory today and hopefully I'll be doing a Warners or Halfmoon Wednesday, backhaul Thursday, Jersey City Friday, then home for the weekend!

Minivans thanks for the laughs about teenage automotive shenanigans. My very first car was an '88 Escort and I did engage in some offroading shenanigans myself, just once, made a story and learned some lessons lol. Also my current car in question is an '01 Sentra SE that I've blown way too much money on tailoring it for on road shenanigans. It has nearly a quarter million on it and has been absolutely fantastic reliability wise other than the trans input shaft seal going causing the trans to grenade.

    Is Angie on vacation?

Anybody know what the point is of the qualcomm message asking me for my Odometer reading? This makes twice now.

I don't know. They do that sometimes. I don't know why. The Qualcomm knows how many miles are on the truck. (sort of, it only logs miles since it was installed, and if the truck comes from Sioux City, it's only off by 65 miles or so.)
