I left my last carrier, Mike Brooks Inc, just before they were bought by Link (early 2008 ). I kept in contact with a number of the guys that stayed there. That was one bunch of unhappy campers before too long. Not one of them had any good to say about Link. Eventually, they all jumped ship as well. Some lost all the previous contribution matches to their 401K folders, and took it in the shorts regarding health plan benefits and such. Martin (not the refer outfit) eventually bought what was left from Link after Link ran it into the ground.

I heard enough to know that I dodged that bullet.

I am a driver with Link America. There is good and bad with them, just like most companies out there. I have been here 4 years.

As with any company, you will be lied to. Paychecks are average. Some weeks great, others not so great. Payroll is not to reliable. Watch your checks close. They are always missing something on my check, but they always fix it. It is a pain though to call them every other week.

Calling dispatch and breakdown can be a pain. Sometimes I am on hold for what seems like an hour just to get through.

The medical coverage is good. The 401k they just stopped last month. Link America was bought out last month by an investing company so I am not sure what to expect. Hopefully good things.

I get my home-time as requested. If there are any problems with the truck, it gets repaired. They have a facebook page where I am sure you can add them and ask questions.

All in all, they need improvement. While I haven't had it great, I haven't had it bad here either. They do have some older trucks out here, but I am not in one. I got my truck brand new when I started.

Good...They give a ton of miles. They get you home when needed. They repair their trucks when there is a problem. They pay pretty decent by the mile and offer a per diem.

Bad...Hard to reach them when needed. Forced dispatch though they say it isnt. Payroll has no idea what they are doing. :biggrin_25526:

I miss working for Mike Brooks. :(
But they told me they were cutting down staff to the bare minimum to meet their shipper's needs and the rest were going to Link (which is what happened to me).

But yeah, I really liked being known as a name and person and not just a truck number.

Seems kind of ironic that Link, who was buying smaller trucking companies, was bought themselves. :biggrin_2559:

I worked for them for a year. I was on the Lane Frieght Texas fleet, Pay check was never right, only 2 dispatchers for 400 trucks and most trucks had no QC so every thing had to be called in. It could take over an hour just to make a loaded or empty call. They would deadhead from Amirillo to San Antonio then only pay for loaded miles. The bald guy that runs safety thinks he's a god and any thing you say is wrong, even when your agreeing with him.
The shop is staffed with wanna be mechanics that have no clue as to how to work on the trucks. Most of the truck are in bad shape but a majority of the trailers should have been sent to the junk yard years ago. You spend a lot of time driving around for free looking for a trailer that the costumer won't reject.
Lane only had about 500 trucks but they hired 50 to 75 drivers a week so the turn over is much higher then they claim.
Maybe the new owners will fix things but thats a lot of fixing to do.
